SL vs IND: “Great Catches Turn Matches” – Jemimah Rodrigues

After securing their first convenient win against Sri Lanka, Indian stars Jemimah Rodrigues and Deepti Sharma collaborated for some post-match conversation. Jemimah’s stunning 36 runs were backed by Radha Yadav’s 2-wicket spell, which made the game seem considerably easy. India secured the game by some noticeable run difference. Both, Deepti and Jemimah, batted at a stunner strike rate. Jemimah played at a strike rate of 133 and although Deepti didn’t contribute many runs, she hit some necessary strokes at a rate of 212, bringing closure to the first innings.

Speaking about her contribution of 17 runs, Deepti said, “It went as we were planning. We had a plan to grab singles, and in the last over we wanted to go all out. I was just focusing on striking some boundaries since it was the final over of the inning and I wanted to collect maximum runs.”

Jemimah Rodrigues was named the Player of the Match, having made a stunning comeback she said, “I am feeling really good, obviously. It is good to be back in the Indian Blue.” On a lighter note she said, “I don’t want to remove this jersey. These last few months, I had a lot of time to work on the things that I felt I should work on. I played some matches and that gave me the confidence going into domestic and then the IPL. I was playing well but I just wanted to extend that form as much as possible.”

“The team needed me today. I knew Deepti would hit in the end so I waited. And the partnership we had after a long time. It was a small partnership but a very crucial one,” she continued.

“People see matches, they don’t see the efforts we put in” – Jemimah Rodrigues

Deepti Sharma’s stunning catch in the second inning, dismissing Sri Lanka’s Vishmi Gunaratne, put India back into a commanding position. Speaking of her brilliant catch, she added, “I thought the ball was going backwards, but it suddenly fell way ahead.” Explaining the catch, Jemimah Rodrigues said, “There’s a lot of wind here, so it wasn’t easy to catch. I was on the cover, I saw the ball swirling. But the dive was simply amazing.”

And as Jemimah said, “People see matches, they don’t see the efforts we put in. I have seen you (Deepti), even after practice, you are the one to go and take catches.” Adding to this Deepti Sharma said, “You must be able to field literally anywhere. In every fielding session, I make it a point to dive in 5-6 catches, so it’s easier on the field.”

Jemimah Rodrigues conveyed an important message to the youngsters, “It’s not only batting-bowling, but fielding is also equally important. Great catches turn matches.”

With this, the Indian team will now look forward to maintaining their win streak, at the next T20 game, which will take place at Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium on Saturday (June 25).
