The legendary right-arm pacer Jhulan Goswami will be working as the bowling coach and mentor of the Mumbai team in the Women’s IPL. Recently the Gujarat Giants roped in Mithali Raj as mentor and advisor for the upcoming edition of the Women’s Premier League. Her long-time teammate and friend, Jhulan Goswami will be in the opposition dugout when Gujarat Giants clash with Mumbai.
The 40-year-old pacer from Bengal brought the curtains down on her illustrious career in 2022. After her retirement, Jhulan served as Bengal’s mentor-cum-player in the domestic circuit. Last year, she was given the responsibility of working with Bengal’s female cricketers across all age groups.
Someone of Jhulan’s experience and stature will have a lot to offer to young, budding cricketers. The players who will represent the team from Mumbai will get the chance to pick her brains.
The Delhi Capitals management had offered a coaching role to Jhulan. Sourav Ganguly confirmed the same to Sportstar. The director of Cricket at Delhi Capitals said:
Jhulan Goswami got an offer from Delhi Capitals too
“We have offered the bowling coach role to Jhulan and we are sure that she will accept the offer.”
That didn’t come through as Jhulan decided to join Mumbai. It is good for Indian women’s cricket that Jhulan is a part of the promising WPL.
“Jhulan has gone to Mumbai,” said Sourav while addressing the media on Tuesday at Eden Gardens, as per ESPNCricinfo.
“We had given her an offer, but she is going to Mumbai,” added the former Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President.
When will the WPL 2023 auction take place?
The 5 teams will be looking to put their best feet forward in the upcoming WPL player auction.
The important event is likely to be held on either February 11 or 13. It will take place either in New Delhi or Mumbai.
The BCCI is expected to take a final decision in the next few days.
