The Senior Women’s Inter Zonal One Day Trophy 2024 came to a compelling finish with the Sneh Rana-led Central Zone registering a three-wicket win versus West Zone at the Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara. This win meant Central Zone laid their hands on the pristine trophy and drew curtains on a memorable campaign.

Central Zone extended their rich vein of form with a clinical three-wicket win against the formidable West Zone at the Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara. Central Zone won the toss and elected to field first.

West Zone had the duo of Yastika Bhatia and Smriti Mandhana kickstart the proceedings on a brisk note with a quickfire 23-run partnership. The first breakthrough for Central Zone was provided by Mansi Joshi as she got rid of Bhatia for 16. The dependable India international, Mandhana was joined by the effervescent Jemimah Rodrigues who kept the momentum going.

The duo was instrumental in stitching a 60-run partnership, till the leggie Poonam Yadav got the better of Mandhana for a well-settled 36. Mumbai was also rocked with two setbacks losing Humairaa Kaazi and T S Hasabnis for a five-ball duck and a score of 11 respectively as Poonam Yadav once again got the critical wickets.

With A A Patil chipping in with an unbeaten 54 and with Rodrigues’ 37, Radha Yadav’s 24, and S B Pokharkar’s blitz knock of 12 coming from 9; West Zone ended on 206/7. Central Zone had Poonam Yadav scalp four wickets, Mansi Joshi pocket two wickets and SS Kalal’s one wicket- it was a commendable showing with the ball.

In the run-chase that followed, the openers Nuzhat Parween and Nikita Singh kickstarted the proceedings with a crucial 54-run partnership. West Zone’s Radha Yadav got the first wicket dismissing opener Singh for 31. With Nuzhat Parween staying solid at the crease, it was support from Mona Meshram who stepped up once again when the team most needed her to deliver it.

With Mona’s 37 and contributions of 19 and 17 from Dayalan Hemalatha and Sneh Rana- Central Zone was on course for a win even though Bharti Fulmali fell for 7. Eventually, it was Tanuja P Kanwer’s calm and composed 37 with Meghna Singh and Mansi Joshi’s 4 that paved the way for a memorable three-wicket win in 49.2 overs.
