In a rain-interrupted first ODI clash between South Africa and Sri Lanka, Tazmin Brits stole the spotlight with a dazzling knock of 116, leading her team to a commanding total of 270/6. Despite her stellar performance, the match concluded without a result, leaving both teams ruing missed opportunities.
Brits’ innings was nothing short of spectacular, characterized by a display of patience and precision. Answering Neha Shetty of Women CricInsight’s questions at the post-match conference, Brits was introspective.
Reflecting on her innings, she emphasized the mental aspect of her performance, stating, “I keep saying it’s a mental thing, but it definitely is. I realised that again with the previous one that I actually got. It was a lot of patience, so I had to tell myself I think I only hit three balls in the air. But yeah, I think it was a good knock.”
The transition from T20s to ODIs is often seen as a challenge for many cricketers, but Brits appeared unfazed by the shift in format.
Tazmin Brits is in good form
When asked about this transition, she revealed, “Well, I was a bit negative with the T20s. I didn’t do what I wanted to do. So with the ODIs, I had more time in order to get myself in. So I wouldn’t say it’s too much of a transition. I think it’s maybe just having more time to play the ball as it comes.”
South Africa’s total of 270, anchored by Brits’ century, posed a formidable challenge for Sri Lanka. Despite the match ending in a no-result due to rain, Brits expressed satisfaction with the team’s batting performance.
“Yeah, I definitely think it will motivate us. We’re looking at those 262-80s and we actually reached that tonight. A good end there with Nades [Nadine de Klerk] who got those runs. So yeah, we of course wanted to get some points and maybe win the game. But I think we are very excited for the next game,” she remarked.
