Senior Women’s Inter Zonal Multi-Day Trophy 2023-24: Final, Day 3 Review – Match Recap, Top Run Getters, Top Wicket-Takers

In a low-scoring affair, East Zone were crowned champions of the Senior Women Inter Zonal Multi-Day Trophy 2023-24 after scripting a remarkable one-wicket win versus South Zone in the finals.

Day 2 of the Senior Women’s Inter Zonal Multi-Day Trophy 2023-24 witnessed East Zone requiring 154 runs to chase down in the second innings to lay their hands on the elusive trophy versus South Zone. They were 30/2 with a mountain hill to climb and secure a win.

Day 3 started with Uma Chetry giving a cautious start with Dhara Gujjar in company. The duo got to 17 runs in a partnership that came off 51 deliveries but getting the first breakthrough in the day for South Zone was Arundathi Reddy who dismissed Gujjar for 13.

Even as Chetry batted on, her stay was brought to an end by Sahana S Pawar. East Zone was reeling at 53/3 and that is when the skipper Deepti Sharma was joined by her India teammate Richa Ghosh.

The duo put on a formidable 62-run partnership that not only bailed East Zone out of trouble but got them across the shore in place to chase down the total. However, this fairytale did not last as an unfortunate mix-up between the duo saw Richa Ghosh run out for 33. RR Saha was the next to be dismissed for a nine-ball duck and seemingly, the momentum was shifting back to South Zone.

Ensuring that was not the case was Deepti Sharma who was batting on and with Monikha Das, the scoreboard was ticking and they put 25 crucial runs on the board. But South Zone again clawed back as Sahana S Pawar got the prized wicket of Deepti Sharma for a well-played 46.

But with Saika Ishaque and Monikha Das falling in subsequent overs, there was a glimmer of hope for South Zone to seal the match. Finally, it was AB Das and Sushree Dibadarshini who sailed through the tough waters, stitching a glorious 25-run partnership which was instrumental and with Titas Sadhu giving the final touches to the victory, East Zone won the match by 1 wicket.

South Zone would rue their chances but Sahana S Pawar and Minnu Mani scalped three wickets each, which was remarkable and with Arundathi Reddy and Sajana S taking a wicket each- it was a tough contest for the East Zone batters in all phases of the innings.

South Zone captain, Minnu Mani was adjudged the ‘Player of the Match’ for her remarkable performance and East Zone captain Deepti Sharma was awarded ‘Player of the Series’ for her consistent showings in the tournament.

East Zone was awarded prize money of Rs. 50,00,000/- on winning the prestigious Senior Women’s Inter Zonal Multi-Day Trophy.
