Day one of the Senior Women’s Inter Zonal Multi-Day Trophy 2023-24 Final witnessed an enthralling battle between South Zone and East Zone at the MCA Cricket Stadium in Gahunje.

South Zone, after winning the toss in the final of Senior Women’s Inter Zonal Multi-Day Trophy 2023-24, elected to bat first and posted a total of 133 runs in their first innings. The day concluded with East Zone trailing by 25 runs, reaching a score of 108/5 in 34 overs.
South Zone’s innings began on a shaky note as opener M Durga departed early, dismissed for a duck by Titas Sadhu. The top-order struggled to establish partnerships initially, with G Kamalini, Tamanna Nigam, and Minnu Mani falling cheaply.
However, captain Arundathi Reddy provided stability to the innings with a gritty knock of 57 runs off 122 deliveries, featuring 10 boundaries. She even stitched a crucial 44-run partnership with Shabnam which was fruitful.
Contributions from Sajana S and Shabnam further bolstered South Zone’s total. However, they were eventually bowled out for 133 runs in 54.5 overs. Titas Sadhu and Deepti Sharma emerged as the chief architects of East Zone’s bowling attack, both claiming four wickets each.
Sadhu troubled the South Zone batters with her accurate line and length, finishing with figures of 4/30 in 14 overs. Deepti provided crucial breakthroughs, scalping four wickets for 28 runs in 14.5 overs. A B Das and Sushree Dibyadarshini also chipped in with a wicket each.
In response, East Zone started their innings cautiously but lost early wickets. Opener Uma Chetry departed early, falling to Shabnam after scoring just 4 runs. However, Deepti, the captain, steadied the innings with a composed knock of 22 runs and scripted a partnership of 34 with Richa Ghosh, before being adjudged lbw off Minnu Mani’s bowling.
Richa Ghosh contributed 25 runs before being dismissed by Mani as well. R R Saha showed resilience, scoring 22 runs and getting dismissed before the day concluded. Durga Murmu, however, ended on 22 as the pair notched 44 runs in a promising partnership.
East Zone finished the day at 108/5 in 34 overs in the Senior Women’s Inter Zonal Multi-Day Trophy 2023-24, trailing by 25 runs.
South Zone’s bowlers put up a disciplined performance to keep the pressure on East Zone’s batting lineup. Shabnam and Sunanda led the bowling attack, claiming one wicket each. Minnu Mani was the most successful bowler for South Zone, picking up two crucial wickets for 38 runs in 11 overs.
