The prestigious Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy for the ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year 2022 will be awarded to one among Nat Sciver, Smriti Mandhana, Amelia Kerr, and Beth Mooney.
There were many to choose from as women’s cricket is motoring along at a great speed. Talented players are showcasing their skills and enthralling the spectators every day. Two all-rounders and two batsmen have been nominated for the ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year award which is named after legendary former cricketer Rachael Heyhoe Flint.
Let’s take a look at the four players who have been nominated:
Nat Sciver (England)
The experienced campaigner has also found a place amongst the nominees for the Women’s ODI Cricketer of the Year award. She top-scored for her team with 436 runs at the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup with an average of over 70. In 17 matches, Sciver amassed 833 runs with 5 half-centuries and 2 centuries in ODI cricket in 2022. She also picked up 11 wickets in the fifty-over format. Across all formats, she ended the year with 1346 runs and 22 wickets from 33 matches.
Smriti Mandhana (India)
One of India’s mainstays, Smriti Mandhana has shown her ability to adjust to all formats of the game. She has also been named among the nominees for the ICC Women’s T20I Cricketer of the Year award. The left-hander has scored established her class in 2022 by scoring an impressive 1290 runs in 38 matches. She played a pivotal role in India winning the silver medal at the Commonwealth Games.
Amelia Kerr (New Zealand)
Like Nat Sciver, Amelia Kerr also found a place amongst the nominees for the Women’s ODI Cricketer of the Year award. She impressed fans as well as critics with both bat and ball throughout the course of the year. In the 32 matches she played in 2022, the 22-year-old picked up 30 wickets while scoring 1003 runs. At such a young age, the talented all-rounder has shown that she will be one of the most important cricketers in the White Ferns’ setup for a very long time.
Beth Mooney (Australia)
The experienced left-hander from Down Under has been a class apart managing 8 fifty-plus scores in 2022. Mooney played in the recently-concluded T20I series against India and ended the tour as the top-scorer with 205 runs from 5 matches with an average of 68.33. In 2022, Mooney scored a total of 915 runs from 25 matches.
