Nigar Sultana Highlights Their Heated Argument With India Captain Harmanpreet Kaur

The third ODI game between Harmanpreet Kaur led India and Bangladesh must have ended in a tie, but the atmosphere at Sher-E-Bangla ended up becoming the talk of the town. A much controversial end to the 3 ODI game series between India and Bangladesh saw many unwanted incidents as well. Harmanpreet Kaur, the Indian captain has been charged 75% of her match fees for unpolite behaviour on the field, challenging the decisions taken by the umpires.

It so happened, that after having been declared out, Harmanpreet, unconvinced with the decisions of the umpires, smashed the stumps with her bat and ended up exchanging a heated conversation with umpire Tanvir Ahmed.

During the post-match presentation, Harmanpreet Kaur openly called the umpiring “pathetic”, lashing at the on-field umpires, Tanvir Ahmed and Muhammad Kamruzzman and showing pure dissatisfaction towards the decision taken by the two. During the end-of-the-series photograph session, Harmanpreet Kaur and Nigar Sultana (Bangladesh’s captain) exchanged a tense interaction, which compelled Sultana to point out her unpolite behaviour during the entire game.

-“Why you are only here? You haven't tied the match. The umpires did it for you. Call them up! We better have photo with them as well.”

Sultana clarified, “I went there to play the match. So let me speak about cricket. Neither we bothered about the pitch nor did we think about the umpires. Every player from our team tried to give their 100 percent. I am not concerned about what they are thinking.”

“It’s what she did and we have nothing to do about it. But as a player, she should have spoken with a bit of manners. It’s completely her matter and I would not want to make any comments on her. There were some talks which I cannot disclose. But I felt the environment was not right and so we left the place. Cricket is a respectful sport and is a gentlemen’s game,” she said.

For her unacceptable on-field behaviour, Harmanpreet Kaur has been charged heavy fees along with demeriting her 4 points. She will be charged 50% of the total match fees for smashing the wickets and 25% for her presentation and aggressive body language.

To end it all Sultana stated in the post-match conference, “The umpires wouldn’t have given them out had they not been out. Two of the best umpires, who also officiated in men’s games, were there. We respected their decision. Why did we not react that way when we were given out? It doesn’t matter what the situation is. The umpire’s decision is the final decision. The umpiring was excellent. What about the catches and run outs? What do they have to say regarding that?”

However, Harmanpreet Kaur’s stance on the entire act is yet to be clarified.
