Following the triumph of the Emerging Asia Cup in Hong Kong, former India cricketer Nooshin Al Khadeer is slated to go with Bangladesh’s senior women’s squad as interim head coach.
The Indian women’s team will be led by interim coach Nooshin Al Khadeer on their tour of Bangladesh. Nooshin Al Khadeer was the winning coach of the India U-19 Women’s World Cup earlier this year in South Africa. During the inaugural Women’s Premier League, the 42-year-old erstwhile India off-spinner was the bowling coach for Gujarat Giants.
Notwithstanding the fact that the three-member Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) has purportedly recommended Amol Mazumdar for the role of Indian women’s team head coach, the BCCI will not make a final decision on his appointment for a few days.
“Post the Bangladesh tour, there’s a break of a few months before the Indian women’s team plays international cricket. We have time,” a Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) official stated.
As a result, Mazumdar will be unable to travel to Bangladesh with the Indian women’s squad for three ODIs and three T20s. The Indian squad will be locking horns with Bangladesh on Thursday and is scheduled to meet in Mumbai on Wednesday.
Nooshin Al Khadeer tasted great success as the U-19 coach
Nooshin Al Khadeer is presently serving as the coach of the Railways team, which competes in India’s domestic circuit. In the past couple of years, the former Hyderabad cricketer has been collaborating with the NCA to train young female cricketers.
On Thursday, the Indian squad will depart for Bangladesh. NCA coaches Apurva Desai (batting), Rajib Dutta (bowling), and Subhadeep Ghosh (fielding) are going to serve as support staff for the Indian women’s team during the tour.
Ramesh Powar was the Indian women’s team’s last head coach. He was replaced by Hrishikesh Kanitkar the BCCI six months ago, before the double-header against South Africa whereupon the T20 Women’s World Cup, and Kanitkar was appointed as the senior team’s interim coach.
