ACC Women’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2023: Shweta Sehrawat Led India-A Starts As Favourite In The Tournament

India A led by Shweta Sehrawat starts as the favourite in the ACC Women’s T20 Emerging Teams Asia Cup 2023,  despite having senior teams like UAE, and Hong Kong. India has selected players from their U-19 World Cup winning side, while players like Kanika Ahuja or Shreyanka Patil, whose performances in the Inaugural WPL caught selectors’ eyes boosted the side.

India will be led by Shweta Sehrawat, whose batting prowess in the U-19 World Cup played an instrumental role in India’s winning campaign, earlier this year. In 7 innings she scored 297 runs with an average of 99 and 3 half-centuries. While she was solid in the opening slot, she proved that she could play in the lower order with a brisk pace in the match against Scotland when she scored an unbeaten 31 from 10 balls at no 6.

Sehrawat was bought by UP Warriorz in the WPL, though she didn’t have a great outing in the inaugural edition. Scoring only 34 runs in 6 innings. With runs in her tally in the domestic circuit, she is again going to play a crucial role at the top of the order.

In the absence of Shafali Verma and Richa Ghosh, Soumya Tiwari who had scored 84 runs including an unbeaten 28 in the U-19 World Cup Final and Trisha Gongadi who has earned praise from the expert for her batting will be looking to give India a good start in the top order. While Indian lower batting will depend upon the likes of Kaniak Ahuja who scored runs with a strike rate of 133 for RCB in WPL. Shreyanka Patil’s 62 runs came at a strike rate of 152 at the lower order for RCB. In a side which had batters like Mandhana, Perry, Devine and Knight, this uncapped Indian batter had the highest strike rate.

Indian bowling will again be laid by the seamers like Titas Sadhu and Kasvee Gautam. Titas though did not get any chances in the WPL for Delhi Capitals, her spell in the U-19 World Cup Final against England where she picked up 2 wickets in her opening spell, led experts to compare her with another legendary Bengal fast bowler Jhulan Goswami. Kasvee Gautam, the seamer from Chandigarh was a phenomenon, a couple of seasons back, in the domestic circuit.

She picked more than 80 wickets in three tournaments including U-19 and U-23 tournaments. She also picked up a 10-wicket haul against Arunachal Pradesh and picked up 9 and 8 wickets as well in another two matches. In the absence of either Richa Ghosh or Hrishita Basu, Uma Chetry and Mamatha Madiwala will take a stand behind the stump.
