WPL 2024: Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Harmanpreet Kaur said that their batters failed to “hold their nerve” in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 Eliminator on Friday, March 15 against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
The MI skipper emphasized that her dismissal in the 18th over was the turning point of the match. MI lost by 5 runs after Harmanpreet’s dismissal, failing to score 16 runs off their last 12 balls while chasing 136.
“In 12 balls we just needed one boundary, and we were not able to get it. That is what this game always teaches you. It puts you under pressure, and you have to keep learning from it,” Harmanpreet said after the match.
“When we lost my wicket, after that our batters could not hold their nerve, that was the turning point.”
Harmanpreet Kaur made 33 runs off 30 balls with four fours, before Shreyanka Patil took her wicket.
“We are gutted, but we will be stronger because of this experience.”
Aye-aye, Lottie 🤗 Until we see you again. 💙#OneFamily #AaliRe #MumbaiIndians #TATAWPL pic.twitter.com/NY3Udj4WBC

‘We fought really hard’ – MI skipper Harmanpreet Kaur
MI began their campaign with victories over Delhi Capitals (DC) and Gujarat Giants (GT). Harmanpreet Kaur-led MI finished second in the table due to losses in the middle phase of the tournament.
MI ended their campaign with two defeats against Smriti Mandhana’s RCB.
“We fought really hard. This season has been a little up and down for us. Last season as a team we did really well but this time our performance was little up and down. But we learned a lot this season and hopefully next season we prepare really well and come [back] hard,” Harmanpreet Kaur added.
Harmanpreet Kaur also praised Sajeevan Sajana for her clean cricket ball striking skills. Sajana pulled off a last-ball six against the Delhi Capitals in the first game and also opened the batting with Hayley Matthews.
“We got SS (Sajana) during this tournament, she is someone who can hit the ball really hard. And that is what we want the WPL to do, to create more young players and it’s good to see young girls are coming and giving their 100%,” MI skipper Harmanpreet Kaur concluded.
