The inaugural season of the Women’s Premier League is underway, and we have already seen some cliffhangers.
The Gujarat Titans bounced back with a thrilling win against UP Warriorz after being outplayed by Mumbai Indians Women in the first match of the tournament. Chasing 170 to win, UP Warriorz reached the target with a ball and three wickets to spare.
The 29-year-old Grace Harris played the role of a finisher to perfection. She smashed an unbeaten 26-ball 59 to take the Warriorz across the finish line. Harris found the perfect ally in Sophie Ecclestone who played a vital cameo of 22 in 12 balls. Harris’ knock was studded with 7 fours and 3 sixes. With 19 to win off the final over, Harris scored 24 in just 5 balls to enthrall the crowd in the DY Patil Stadium.
However, there was a moment of panic when Gujarat captain Sneh Rana took a review for a wide in the final over. It seemed as if Harris was getting anxious and wanted the match to resume quickly. UP Warriorz’s captain, Alyssa Healy gestured for Harris to calm down. Healy must have been nervous herself but she showed no signs of it in her body language. Harris gave her captain a thumbs-up and finished the match with a four and a six in the following two deliveries.

When is the next match for the UP Warriorz?
UP Warriorz will be a happy bunch after opening their account in terms of points won in the tournament.
They will square off against Delhi Capitals Women at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on March 7 at 19:30 IST.
The Delhi side comes into the match after posting a mammoth 223/2 and thrashing RCBW by 60 runs in their opening encounter. It will be intriguing to watch how the spin trio of Rajeshwari Gayakwad, Deepti Sharma, and Sophie Ecclestone compete against the blistering opening duo of Shafali Verma and Meg Lanning.
