T20I Tri-Series 2023: Key Players To Watch Out For

A much-important T20I Tri-Series played between South Africa, India, and West Indies is all set to start on 19th January in South Africa. Each team will play two matches against each other, and the top two teams at the end will meet for the finals on 2nd February. 

All the matches will be played at Buffalo Park, East London, and this series will act as a preparation for the upcoming mega event i.e, Women’s T20 World Cup 2023, which will be hosted by South Africa. This is the perfect opportunity for the teams to get themselves familiar with the conditions and be ready for the ultimate showdown. 

On that note, let’s take a look at the players to watch out for in this T20I Tri-Series:

  • Anneke Bosch

Anneke Bosch has been in great touch recently with the bat for South Africa in T20Is. In the last year, she has managed to rack up 256 runs in nine innings at an average of 42.66. She is also a handy bowler who can deceive the batters with her medium-pace bowling. 

Overall, in 15 T20Is, she has 348 runs at an average of 34.8 and eight wickets at an economy of 7.36 to her name. Her presence is very much important for the hosts, who will be expecting her to continue her brilliant run. 

  • Laura Wolvaardt

Laura Wolvaardt has been one of the important assets for the South African side in recent years. She has taken the world by storm at a young age and scored runs consistently. The opening batter is known for her ability to keep the scoreboard ticking and play the role of anchor.

She has already played 42 T20Is and has scored 776 runs at an average of 28.74 and a strike rate of 112.79. She is surely a player to watch out for in this series. 

  • Smriti Mandhana

Smriti Mandhana is currently among the best players in Women’s cricket. She is ranked 3rd in the Women’s T20I rankings and has been the backbone of India’s success over the years in the shorter format. The opener has featured in 107 T20Is and has managed to score 2565 runs at an average of 27.28 and a strike rate of 123.55. 

She has the ability to take on the opposition bowlers single-handedly and win the game for her side.

  • Deepti Sharma

Deepti Sharma has been an underappreciated asset of the Indian side. She has made remarkable contributions in both aspects of the game and always performed whenever her side has needed. She is currently ranked 3rd in T20I bowling and all-rounder rankings which showcases how important a player she is.

In 82 matches, she has 865 runs at an average of 25.44 and 87 wickets at an economy of just 6.11. 

  • Hayley Matthews

There is no doubt that Hayley Matthews has been the best performer for West Indies in recent years. Talking about the performances of the last year, she is their leading run-scorer as well as leading wicket-taker.  In the last ten innings, she has scored 193 runs while also taking 12 wickets. 

Overall, in 74 games, she has scored 1326 runs and has managed to grab 72 wickets at an economy of just 5.67. 

  • Stafanie Taylor

Stafanie Taylor is among the most experienced players in Women’s T20I cricket. She has been a reckoning force for West Indies throughout her career and has been one of the most valuable players. 

In 111 T20I matches, she has hammered 3121 runs at an average of 35.87 and has also managed to collect 98 wickets at an economy of 5.66.
