Stafanie Taylor Returns As West Indies Name Squad For T20I Tri-series In South Africa

West Indian cricket fans will breathe a sigh of relief as star all-rounder Stafanie Taylor has been named in the squad for the tri-series in South Africa. The 31-year-old is a vital cog in the West Indian lineup. She missed the international matches that West Indies played against England due to an injury. However, that is a thing of the past now as she seems to have recovered fully and finds a place 15-woman squad that travels to South Africa to play a tri-series involving the host nation and India.

West Indies had a disastrous time playing in front of their home fans as they completely fell flat against England. They missed a few players like Taylor, Shamilia Connell, and Shakera Selman, but losing all three ODIs and all five T20Is in home conditions must have been a bitter pill to swallow.

A good performance in the tri-series will be key as the team must be low on confidence at this point in time.

Chief Selector Ann Browne-John hopes to see a better batting effort going forward

In the 5-match T20I series against England, West Indies collapsed for 82 and 43 in the last couple of encounters. The batting needs to improve by leaps and bounds and Chief Selector Ann Browne-John believes that the return of experienced players will aid in that.

“Our batting in the most recent series was less than par against a very good England bowling attack. We believe that with the return of some experienced batters, they will be able to support captain Hayley Matthews at the top of the order.”

The 67-year-old former right-hand batter feels that the squad has enough talent and experience to compete with India and South Africa.

“The selection panel has named a squad that we believe has the talent and experience to compete against India and South Africa.”

Let’s take a look at the West Indies squad:

Squad: Hayley Matthews (c), Aaliyah Alleyne, Shemaine Campbelle, Shamilia Connell, Britney Cooper, Chedean Nation, Cherry Ann Fraser, Afy Fletcher, Shabika Gajnabi, Sheneta Grimmond, Chinelle HenryKarishma Ramharack, Kaysia Schultz, Shakera Selman, Stafanie Taylor, Rashada Williams.
