The teams will gear up against each other for the second ODI of Sri Lanka vs New Zealand at Galle International Stadium in Galle on June 30, Friday. Sri Lanka won the rain-affected first ODI with nine wickets demolishing the New Zealand Women and taking a 1-0 lead in the series.

The hosts played brilliantly and registered their first victory against New Zealand in any format. The game was shortened to 28 overs due to rain. The Sri Lankan batters came and batted like they owned the pitch especially their skipper Chamari Athapaththu who scored a century. Chamari Athapaththu and Vishmi Gunaratne made history with a record-breaking 159-run partnership for Sri Lanka women’s cricket team. The team will want to continue this winning form in the second ODI.

On the other hand, the visitors to New Zealand batted very well and scored 170 where many batters got the start but couldn’t convert it. No one played a big innings otherwise they could have scored more runs which would have given their bowlers some extra cushion. New Zealand bowlers bowled very ordinally and couldn’t pick wickets when needed. The New Zealand bowlers have to step up for their team in the second ODI.

The Lankans will want to clinch the series in the next game and climb up in the table of the women’s championship. while New Zealand will try to overcome the mistakes they made in the first ODI and win the second one to stay alive in the series.

Sri Lanka vs New Zealand, 2nd ODI – Key Players

Sri Lanka:

Chamari Athapaththu: The left-handed batting all-rounder has been in exceptional form for her team. She scored a match-winning unbeaten century which led them to a historical win. She was awarded Player of the Match for her performance. The Sri Lankan team will rely on their captain to lead from the front in the Second ODI.

Vishmi Gunaratne: The right-handed batter Rajapaksha Mudiyanselage Vishmi Dewmini Gunarathne opens the inning for Sri Lanka. She scored a very crucial fifty which helped the Lankans to register their first victory against New Zealand. Vishmi Gunaratne will play an important role in the second ODI.

New Zealand:

Suzie Bates: A top-order batting all-rounder, Suzie Bates learned cricket in the backyard with her two older brothers. By the time she was 15, she was representing the Otago Sparks in New Zealand’s national women’s cricket league. She was looking in good touch until a beauty by Dilhari sent her back. New Zealand will surely want their opening batter to perform well.

Sophie Devine: Sophie Devine has made a remarkable transition from being a bowler who occasionally batted at No. 11 to becoming one of the game’s premier all-rounders and most destructive batters. Though a direct hit by Ranaweera sent her to the pavilion. New Zealand will undoubtedly expect a match-winning performance from their captain.
