Senior Women’s Inter Zonal Multi-Day Trophy 2023-24: Semi Finals – Day 3 Wrap
Semi-Final 1- North Zone vs East Zone
On Day 2, East Zone amassed a competitive total of 282/9, establishing a commanding lead of 270 runs. They declared their innings overnight, setting a challenging target of 271 for North Zone to chase.
However, North Zone struggled with the bat in their second innings. Losing early wickets, including key players like Priya Punia, Pratika, and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, put them in a precarious position. Although Shafali Verma showed promise with a well-made 49, her dismissal added to North Zone’s woes.
The dismissals of Amanjot Kaur, Taniya Bhatia, and Sushma Verma further compounded the situation for the North Zone. Deepti Sharma’s exceptional bowling performance, claiming six wickets, left North Zone reeling. With Parunika Sisodia and Priyanka Sharma also falling quickly, North Zone collapsed to 135 all out.
This comprehensive victory propelled East Zone into the finals, showcasing their dominance in the semi-final match.
Semi-Final 2- South Zone versus West Zone
On Day 2, South Zone continued their innings from 58/2 and built on their momentum. M Durga and Tamanna Nigam formed a formidable partnership, adding a massive 132 runs to the scoreboard, with Durga playing a crucial innings of 81.
Further strengthening their position, Minnu Mani and Tamanna Nigam combined for a 51-run partnership in 106 balls. However, their momentum was halted when Shradda Pokharkar claimed the breakthrough, dismissing Tamanna Nigam just one run short of a well-deserved century, on 99.
Arundathi Reddy and Sajana S remained unbeaten on 26 and 13 respectively as South Zone declared their innings at 262/5, in the second innings.
Despite not winning the match outright, South Zone secured victory by virtue of taking the first innings lead, thus earning their spot in the finals.
