ZIM v IRE: Ireland Register An Emphatic Nine-wicket Win

Ireland cruised to another delightful nine-wicket win against Zimbabwe at the Harare Sports Club on Thursday. In a rain-curtailed encounter, Zimbabwe batted first to post 65/5 in their eight overs. Kelies Ndhlovu top scored with 17 and cameos came from Pellagia Mujaji, Chiedza Dhururu and Loreen Tshuma; a formidable total was posted.

In return, Ireland chased down the total with the dependable trio of Amy Hunter, Gaby Lewis and Orla Prendergast coming to the party when the team most needed them. Ireland won the toss and opted to field which meant Zimbabwe was put to bat first. Kelies Ndholu and skipper Mary-Anne Musonda ensured a resounding start to the proceedings but before the duo could accelerate, the skipper was dismissed by Georgina Dempsey for 2.

Pellagia Mujaji joined forces with Kelis Ndlovu and kept the runs coming. Ndhlovu’s run-a-ball 17 was run out and the very next over saw the blitzkrieg knock of 12 by Mujaji come to an abrupt end.

Chiedza Dhururu and Loreen Tshuma kept the run flow and momentum on as the former scored 14 off 8 and the latter scored 10 off 6. With Nyasha Gwanzura giving the finishing touches with a knock of 6, Zimbabwe had 65/5 in their eight overs at a run rate of 8.12. Ireland had Georgina Dempsey, Cara Murray and Laura Delany scalp a wicket each to restrict Zimbabwe.

Ireland in the subsequent run-chase had Amy Hunter and Gaby Lewis give a powerful start. While Amy Hunter’s quick-fire 19 off 14 came to an end with Lindokuhle Mabhero getting rid of her but with Gaby Lewis’ 21 and Orla Prendergast’s 22, they chased down the total in 7.5 overs.

For her counter-attacking knock of 22, Orla Prendergast was awarded the ‘Player of the Match’ and Ireland currently leads the series 4-0 with one match to spare.
