The second game of the ICC T20 World Cup 2023 between England and West Indies, witnessed a skilful win of England over West Indies. England overpowered West Indies in all possible areas of the game.
England was able to win the game by 7 wickets. West Indies did try their level best, trying to secure a defendable score and then in the second inning gave their absolute best with the ball in hand. England on the other hand seemed invincible with perfect batting and bowling balance.
The game at Boland Park started off with West Indies winning the toss and claiming to bat first. Openers Hayley Matthews and Stephanie Taylor started off. No major success for Taylor, who was bowled before the wicket way too early at just 3 runs. Hayley Matthews continued the show along with Shemaine Campbell, as the pair secured the major score for the team.
Hayley Matthews secured 42 runs in all, becoming the highest run–scorer for the team. Matthews too was bowled before wickets by Sophie Ecclestone. Chinelle Henry baked Campbell and the two led the team to a total of 135 runs in 20 overs in the ICC T20 World Cup 2023.
Ecclestone stole the show in the first innings. Her 3 wicket haul, proved to be the major highlight of the game. Along with Matthews’ major wicket, she fetched Zaida James and Afy Fetcher as well. Ecclestone’s power performance helped England Restrict the opponents at a low score.
England, therefore, needed 136 runs in 20 overs to secure the game. A convenient game for England as they secured the score in merely 14.3 overs. Sophie Dunkley and Danni Wyatt opened the second inning. Major efforts from both players led e team to a required start.
Dunkley’s 34 runs made the chase seem much easier than it actually was. She played a quick game that built the foundation for the chase and the lower order was able to rest assured. Alice Capsey contributed her bit and Natalie Sciver and Heather Knight played a lion’s share in the chase. Sciver’s 40 runs and Knight’s 32 runs brought an end to the chase.
Absolute master-class from English batters, making the chase seem convenient. A major contribution from Chinelle Henry who picked two major wickets in the form of Sophie Dunkley and Danni Wyatt.
England secured the game with 33 balls to spare and 7 wickets on board. A good start for England while West Indies will now seem to improvise on their team’s stance for the upcoming games.
