ENG vs AUS: England has emerged victorious in the ODI series against Australia. After having to face heavy losses at the Ashes Test games, England has come back stronger and has successfully secured the series by a lead of 2-1. After having lost the last game, and Australis settling the score for 1-1, the third game was a decider for the two teams. Australia winning the toss, decided to chase.

Sophia Dunkley and Tamsin Beaumont opened the bat for the English side as always. But the two weren’t off to a great start. Heather Knight and Nat Sciver turned out to be the real saviours, as the two batted for a long partnership and secured the major runs for their side. Heather Knight played at a strike rate of 93 and secured 67 runs in all. Nat Sciver played a brilliant inning of 129 runs. Her fantastic strike rate of 86, gave the team the required momentum in crucial conditions.

The two secured a partnership of about 140 runs that gave the team a base to stand taller on. After Knight’s and Alice Capsey’s wicket, Danni Wyatt joined Sciver and the two secured the last few runs for the teams, adding to the total score. Danni played a quick 43 runs’ inning in just 25 deliveries playing at a strike rate of 172. In the end, England had 285 runs in 50 overs at a loss of 9 wickets. Some good wickets were secured by Ashleigh Gardener and Jess Jonassen. Both picked 3 wickets each while they were assisted by Megan Schutt and Alana King.

In 50 overs, Australia had to secure a total of 286 runs in order to win the game. A tough one with a heap of scores to chase. Alyssa Healy and Pheobe Litchfield opened for the team, but they were both unsuccessful in setting the required ground for the team while chasing the target. While Healy was bowled by Kate Cross, Litchfield was caught by Sophie Ecclestone on Lauren Bell’s delivery. Ellyse Perry played a better inning, as she batted at a strike rate of 91, securing 53 off 58 deliveries. Tahlia McGrath and Beth Mooney also secured a few runs from their side.

Australia lacked a firm partnership. While each player tried their level best to contribute the required runs, they weren’t able to stay back on the field for a long time, which resulted in their downfall. Ashleigh Gardener also tried her best and secured 41 runs off 24 deliveries. She played at an amazing strike rate indeed but was able to play longer with a destructive bowling attack from the opposition.

They won the game by a huge margin of 69 runs and secured the series having won two out of three games.

Nat Sciver was given the Player of the Match as well as the Player of the Series award. This settles the ODI series between the two cricketing giants.
