Under-19 Women’s Tri-Series 2024: Bangladesh Retain Unbeaten Streak By Defeating Pakistan

Bangladesh operating in red-hot form continued to sizzle as they registered a comprehensive win against Pakistan at the SKICS, Cox Bazar.

Restricting Pakistan early on to a total of 96/5 with no batter barring Samiya Afsar and Areesha Ansari scoring valuable runs and a series of bizarre run-outs making headlines; Bangladesh chased down the total albeit some hiccups with assured knocks of skipper Sumaiya Akter and Afia Asima Era ensuring smooth sailing in the run-chase.

Batting first, Pakistan was rocked early on losing Eyman Fatima cheaply for 8. It was then that Samiya Afsar and Areesha Ansari stitched a crucial partnership. The duo needed to stick it out as the batting hinged largely on them. They stuck to the template and ensured that the runs came despite close chances and some dot balls.

For almost 16 overs, they held the batting together till Afsar was out for a well-played 48 and the next over saw Areesha Ansari out for a 41-ball 26 which was detrimental to Pakistan’s prospects. With a couple of run-outs and reckless batting, Pakistan could only muster 96/5 on the board. For Bangladesh, it was Rabaya Khatun with two wickets who stood out and delivered.

The run-chase got off to an ominous start with Sumaiya Akter Suborna dismissed for a five-ball duck as Anosha Nasir got her LBW. Mst Eva and Jannatul Maoua then struck a partnership that was good while it lasted but with Anosha Nasir once again coming to the fore dismissing Eva and with Laiba Nasir getting Maoua, Bangladesh needed some solidity in the run-chase.

Providing exactly that was skipper Sumaiya Akter who held one end with a stable 38 and with Afia Asima Era scoring 16, the job was done with finishing touches given by Asrafi Yeasmin Arthy, Habiba Islam Pinky and Unnoti Akter, Bangladesh was across the line with another resounding win.

Pakistan would be pleased with their bowling performance as Anosha Nasir scalped three wickets with contributions coming in from Mahnoor Aftab and Laiba Nasir as well as taking the match up till the 17th over was commendable.

Brief Scores: Pakistan U19 vs Bangladesh U19

Pakistan U19 96/5 in 20 overs (Samiya Afsar 48, Areesha Ansari 26; Rabeya Khatun 2/16) lost to Bangladesh U19 97/6 in 17 overs (Sumaiya Akter 38, Afia Asima Era 16; Anosha Nasir 3/11, Mahnoor Aftab 2/17) by four wickets.
