Bangladesh announce squad for U19 Women’s T20 World Cup

The inaugural ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup gets underway on January 14 in South Africa. Teams are making their last-minute preparations ahead of the mega event.

When it comes to cricket, the passion amongst Bangladeshis is second to none. They have taken a fine decision to send the team to South Africa almost a fortnight before the opening day of the tournament. This will give the players a lot of time to get accustomed to the conditions on offer.

There will be a pre-tournament camp after the girls arrive in the African nation. After this, they will lock horns against South Africa on January 9 in a warm-up game. Following this, they will take on India on January 10 in another w

Bangladesh’s first match at the World Cup is a tough one. They collide with Australia on 14 January. The Asian country is a part of Group A. The group features Australia, Sri Lanka, and the United States of America.

BCB Women Wing Selector Monjural Islam gives his opinion on the side that has been selected

Former left-arm pace bowler Monjural Islam was appointed as the chief selector of the senior women’s cricket team in October 2020.

Islam stated in an interview with the International Cricket Council (ICC) that the squad they have chosen has been together for the past couple of years. He lauded the team spirit and understanding among the players.

“We have selected a squad that has been together for the past two years and therefore, there is excellent team spirit and understanding.

“Four players in this side, captain Disha Biswas, Rabeya, Marufa Akter, and Dilara Akter have toured New Zealand with the senior team and three of them have made full international appearances already. Our U19 side also played five matches against the Malaysian national women’s team at home and won all the games.”

Monjural Islam ended by saying that he is confident that the team will be very competitive in the tournament.

“I am confident that this team will be very competitive in the first ever Under 19 World Cup for women,” she added.

It will certainly be exciting to watch what the Bangladeshi unit has to offer in the tournament. The exposure will undoubtedly be of great use.
