ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2023: Team Preview – South Africa

South Africa U19 Team will start as powerhouses in the upcoming inaugural edition of the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2023. They are the hosts which give them an added advantage ahead of the other teams participating in the tournament. They have a decent roster at their exposure Oluhle Siyo handling the captaincy responsibilities.

The Proteas need to make full use of the added advantage and lift the coveted prize in front of their home fans. They are placed in Group D alongside India, Scotland, and UAE. They last played against India U-19s which they lost 4-0 as per the preparation for the mega event.

What could we expect?

As a part of the preparation for the mega event, the South Africa U19 Team hosted the India U19 Team for a six-match T20 series. They were expected to put on a strong performance but unfortunately suffered a 4-0 defeat with two games being washed out due to rain. This series opened up a few holes to be filled in the team. Moreover, in their two warm-up games prior to the start of the main event, they lost the first one to Bangladesh by 7 runs on the DLS and lost to Australia by 8 wickets as well.

It was an eye-opener for the hosts who would now aim to work on their mistakes and come out better in the World Cup by correcting those negatives. They will look to benefit on the home turf and put on an extraordinary performance in front of the lovely home crowd.
