WBBL 2023: Tahlia McGrath Drives Adelaide Strikers To Clinch A Crucial Win Against Sydney Sixers

Sydney Sixers seem to be losing the plot in the WBBL 2023 as another loss, this time versus the Adelaide Strikers means a debilitating finish to their knockout qualification. The Strikers on the other hand would be satisfied with the win as they would now be in the reckoning to qualify for the finals. The match at the North Sydney Oval witnessed the Strikers seal a win in a commendable fashion.

The Strikers won the toss and decided to bowl first putting The Sixers in to bat. With Ellyse Perry and the newly promoted Suzie Bates, the Sixers looked to put up an imposing first innings total. With skipper Tahlia McGrath providing the first breakthrough by getting Bates out for a defensive 5 off 13, Perry kept marching on from the other end. Before she could seal a partnership with Ashleigh Gardner, the latter was dismissed for 8 by Danielle Gibson in the thrilling match of the WBBL 2023.

Perry with her strokeful 37 was undone by McGrath who was primed to get this crucial wicket. Amanda-Jade Wellington made inroads in the match striking with the wicket of Erin Burns and with Chloe Tryon, the Sixers seemed in line for a respectable total. Tryon’s 39 off 28 coupled with some support from the tailenders meant that the Sixers ended on 122/8.

Gibson was the pick of the bowlers pocketing three wickets and with Wellington and McGrath taking two wickets, the Strikers were successful in restricting the Sixers in the WBBL 2023 match.

The Strikers had the duo of Katie Mack and Laura Wolvaardt start off the proceedings but with the dismissal of the latter for 7, McGrath was in earlier than expected and played the perfect anchor knock. Mack’s 45 off 37 was a perfect knock in the run chase that set the tempo and her dismissal was not a dampener in the run chase.

Joining skipper McGrath was Bridget Patterson who impressed with her cameo of 20 and with Madeline Penna’s 13 and McGrath’s 38, the Strikers won the match without much fuss. The Sixer courtesy of Kate Peterson and Lauren Cheatle tried applying some pressure with breakthroughs, however, that was not enough.
