Hobart Hurricanes having set a good target for Sydney Thunder to chase, has defended it pretty well and secured their second game so far in the WBBL 2023. Lizelle Lee’s splendid inning, securing major runs as an opener, has saved the day for Hobart Hurricanes.

Hurricanes won the game by 24 runs. The game at Launceston was a perfect one for the Hobart Hurricanes fans. Winning the toss they opted to bat first and from the very first ball to the last, the game was dominated by the Hobart Hurricanes in the WBBL 2023.

Lizelle Lee opened the bat with Ellyse Villani. A perfect start for the game, with both the batters smashing the deliveries off the boundary and securing easy runs for the team. The team had gained momentum from the very first ball.

Lee made each shot of hers seem very easy to the spectators. Perfect play from the player, playing at the strike rate of 168 securing a total of 91 runs in just 54 deliveries. For the first few overs, she was assisted by Villani, who herself played a brilliant game of 40 runs in just 34 deliveries.

While Bryony Smith was able to secure many runs, Heather Graham joined the wagon and secured a total of 31 runs in just 23 deliveries. All batters batted at impressive strike rates leading the team to a decently defendable total.

At the end of 20 overs of the WBBL 2023, the Hobart Hurricanes had secured 174 runs at a loss of 3 wickets. Playing at a run rate of 8.7 runs per over, the bowlers of Sydney Thunders didn’t have a very happy day.

Maizanne Kapp, Ebony Hoskin and Samantha Bates were able to secure 1 wicket each. Bates secured the major wicket of Lee, whose bat blazed fire today.

A huge target for Sydney Thunders to chase and such targets require firm partnerships and steady play from the players. While the game started on a decent note with Tahlia Wilson and Chamari Athapaththu opening, they weren’t able to stay back long enough which was quite disturbing for the team.

Both the openers lost their wickets by the 8th over, securing around 30 runs together. Pheobe Litchfield provided the required momentum and base for the game in the WBBL 2023.

Litchfield played a beautiful game of 68 runs’ contribution in just 42 deliveries. Playing at a strike rate of 162, she made the chase seem possible for the Sydney Thunders at one juncture of the game. What the team lacked was partnerships in the WBBL 2023. They weren’t able to stay back on the field for too long, which made the target appear like a heap of runs to be chased.

With Molly Strano bowling Litchfield away and back to the pavilion, the middle order batters namely, Marizanne Kapp and Anika Learoyd tried to keep pace for the team. Both contributed 18 and 20 runs each, but the target was yet unattainable.

At the end of 20 overs, the Sydney Thunder were able to secure 150 runs in 20 overs. Impressive bowling from Molly Strano, as she picked two major wickets. Nicola Carey and Amy Smith picked a wicket each. With this, Hobart Hurricanes won against Sydney Thunder by 24 runs. Lizelle Lee was made the Player of the Match in the WBBL 2023.
