U19 ODI Tri Series: Eleanor Larosa’s All Round Heroics Ensure Australia U19 Seal A Win vs England U19

The second encounter of the Sri Lanka Tri-Nation Under-19s ODI Tournament witnessed England U19 clash with their Australia U19 counterparts. Australia secured a close two-wicket win in what was a well-contested encounter at the Galle International Stadium and made it two wins out of two in the tournament so far.

Opting to bat first after winning the toss, England started steadily but soon found themselves under pressure with early dismissals. Jodi Grewcock’s resilient 33 off 48 deliveries laid a foundation, but the team struggled to build partnerships. Despite contributions from Abi Norgrove (21) and Charis Pavely (23), England’s innings lacked momentum.

Katie Jones emerged as the saving grace with a blazing half-century, scoring 57 off 46 balls, injecting vitality into the innings. Supported by Mary Taylor’s unbeaten 33, England managed to post a competitive total of 239, displaying determination in the face of disciplined Australian bowling.

The Australia U19 bowlers, led by Eleanor Larosa (3/31) and Lucy Hamilton (2/37), kept the pressure on England with tight spells. Hasrat Gill (2/49) and Lucy Finn (2/36) chipped in crucial wickets, restricting England’s scoring opportunities.

Despite conceding 27 extras, the Australian bowlers maintained control over the innings, ensuring regular breakthroughs to contain the opposition. Chasing 240 for victory, Australia U19 got off to a flying start, courtesy of Ines Mckeon’s explosive 31 off just 17 balls, including four boundaries and two towering sixes.

However, England U19 fought back with quick wickets, courtesy of Mary Taylor (1/39) and Sophia Smale (1/32), causing early tremors in the Australian camp. Yet, Eleanor Larosa’s resilient half-century, combined with Kate Pelle’s composed 56, anchored Australia’s innings.

Lucy Hamilton’s brisk 21 and Hasrat Gill’s unbeaten 23 steered Australia closer to the target. Despite late wickets falling, including a double-strike by Tilly Coleman (2/37), Australia clinched victory with 27 balls to spare, demonstrating their depth in batting and ability to chase down challenging totals.

England U19’s bowlers struggled to contain the Australian batters, with only Alexa Stonehouse (1/37) and Charlotte Lambert (1/46) managing to break partnerships. Despite their efforts, Australia’s determined chase propelled them to victory.

In a match characterized by ebbs and flows, Australia Women Under-19s emerged victorious by two wickets, showcasing their resilience and composure under pressure. The thrilling encounter highlighted the competitive spirit and talent on display in the tournament, setting the stage for more captivating clashes ahead.
