While the Hundred 2023 are in all form, with the teams set, playing a match each, the tussle for qualifiers has already begun it seems. A hard game for Birmingham Pheonix, who were stopped at a low score overall and were further demolished and lost their game.
Manchester Originals shined with the ball in hand and picked all the required wickets, restricting the opponents to a low score. This helped them immensely in the second inning. The game began with Manchester Originals winning the toss and opting to bowl first. With Evelyn Jones and Sophie Devine opening, the two openers did lay a steady foundation for the team to proceed.
But they were the only hope the team seemed to have, as the rest batters lost to their stance to the fierce bowling performance. Evelyn Jones secured 18 runs before she lost her wicket to Sophie Ecclestone’s delivery. In the next over, Ecclestone also picked Sophie Devine, who was caught at 27 runs. Then began the collapse of the Birmingham batters. Amy Jones, Erin Burns and Abigail Freeborn were among the middle-order batters that lost their quick wickets.
Struggling to secure runs and make an impressive total for the scorecard, the team was able to crawl to a total of 87 runs. They lost all 10 wickets in 19.1 overs in The Hundred 2023.

Amazing bowling performance from Sophie Ecclestone. She picked a total of 4 wickets which included the openers. Fi Morris picked a total of 5 wickets which included the likes of Freeborn, Jones and Issy Wong. Amanda Jade Wellington picked one wicket.
With a low score to chase, the Manchester Originals were in a safe zone. They started off low with Emma Lamb’s early wicket, but Laura Wolvaardt and Ami Campbell held the stance for the team. The two secured major runs for the team to secure. The two batters did lose their wickets but the game was successfully wrapped by Sophie Ecclestone and Kathryn Bryce, as the two secured the last remaining runs.
At a loss of 5 wickets, the Originals were able to secure the game and put up a total of 91 runs in 19.4 overs. Despite a low score, great bowling efforts from the Pheonix, who picked 5 wickets and successfully stretched the game unto the last over. Katie Levick picked 2 wickets in the hustle.

Originals did struggle but a low score helped them secure the game. A good game won by the bowlers. More is expected out of the Pheonix in the upcoming games of The Hundred 2023.
