In the largely one-sided Women’s U19 Tri-Nation T20 Series 2024 that has witnessed some close encounters, Sri Lanka remarkably got the better of Pakistan at the SKICS, Cox Bazar, here on Tuesday. The Island Nation team batting first posted 134/2 on the board propelled by Vishmi Gunarathna scoring a crucial 71 with support coming from Nethmi Senarathna and the skipper Manudi Dulansa Nanayakkara.
Pakistan, in return, could mister only 103/4 on the board with none of the batters able to accelerate and score big runs. With the dot balls piling on and the loss of wickets, Pakistan slipped to a 31-run defeat. For Sri Lanka, it was Rashmika Swwandi who stood out with a couple of wickets.
Sri Lanka on being put to bat first was dealt with a huge blow losing Dewmi Vihanga for a two-ball duck but the duo of Nethmi Poorna Senarthna and Vishmi Gunarathan stuck around. Initially finding their feet, the duo ran well between the wickets and quite literally gave the Pakistan bowlers a run for their money.
En route to their classy partnership with Vishmi Gunarathna finding her groove, she raced to a half-century with Nethmi Senarathna supporting well from the other end. Eventually, it was only Nethmi Senarathna who was dismissed by Maham Anees for 35 as Vishmi Gunarathna ended on a blistering 71 off 55.
The skipper Manudi Nanayakkara’s 17 was the perfect final touches to the first innings that saw Sri Lanka end up with a competitive 134/2 in their 20 overs. Pakistan did not have a lot to write home about with their bowling performance as a lot of bowlers bowled spells in excess of an economy of 6 without having scalped a wicket except Zaibun Nisa and Maham Anees who pocketed a wicket each.

Pakistan, in return, had a very bizarre run chase. With the openers Eyman Fatima and Samiya Afsar kickstarted the proceedings with caution and precision. However, they were building on their knocks exercising a lot of concentration and not taking unnecessary risks. But the dismissals of Afsar and Anees in the 6th and 10th over respectively hurt Pakistan’s prospects because the platform laid was thrown away with Sri Lanka making headway.
With Komal Khan’s 36-ball stay at the crease yielding only 17 runs and with no other valuable contribution coming in from Zootishan Ayyaz and Anosha Nasir, Pakistan slipped to a 31-run loss. Sri Lanka was commendable with the ball as Rashmika Sewwandi scalped two wickets in a miserly spell and with Mandui Nanayakkara and Yasanthi Herth picking one wicket each, it rounded up a good bowling effort.
