The last and final round of the Senior Women’s Inter Zonal One Day Trophy 2024 concluded on the 7th of February, 2024. The day witnessed remarkable performances with the bat and ball. Be it, Yastika Bhatia,’s 151, Amanjot Kaur’s 136, or Vinaya’s five-wicket haul among the myriad of performances that headlined the day.
Here’s how Day 5 of the Senior Women’s Inter Zonal One Day Trophy 2024 panned out.
East Zone vs Central Zone- Central Zone Won by 39 Runs
Central Zone made it to the Senior Women’s Inter Zonal One Day Trophy finals after registering a win against East Zone at the GSFC Cricket Ground in Vadodara.
East Zone won the toss and elected to field first. Central Zone had a sluggish start with Nuzhat Parween and Nikita Singh dismissed early on for negligible scores. With Mona Meshram and Bharti Fulmali, rebuilding of the innings was undertaken. The duo stitched a 75-run partnership and kept the run flow coming. However, after their dismissals in a span of six overs, Central Zone was under pressure and needed another major impetus with a crucial partnership.
Dayalan Hemalatha could not capitalise on her start and was dismissed for 19 by Titas Sadhu but Sneh Rana, Tanuja P Kanwer and Mansi Joshi were dismissed without much impact; Central Zone ended up with a meagre 181 all out in 47 overs. East Zone was commendable with the ball as Saika Ishaque struck with three major wickets, Titas Sadhu picked up two and was supported by Devyani and Deepti in equal measure.
East Zone, in reply, had an even more poor and forgettable outing with the bat. Losing Mouchaity Debnath early on was far from ideal and even though Deepti and Richa provided some semblance of a fightback, their dismissals proved to be a hurdle in chasing down the total.
With Uma Chetry, R R Saha, and Durga Murmu dismissed by Poonam Yadav and SS Kalal cheaply for ducks, Ritu held on one end even as wickets fell and Titas Sadhu’s 22 did help briefly. Eventually, the East Zone was 142 all out, falling 39 runs short of the Central Zone. For Central Zone- Poonam Yadav and S S Kalal struck with three wickets, and Tanuja P Kanwer in her attacking and consistent self, delivered with two wickets. This clinical showing with the ball ensured Central Zone emerged victorious.
North Zone vs West Zone- West Zone Won by 7 Wickets
West Zone once again showcased why they are the team to beat with an inspired seven-wicket win against North Zone at the Darshanam Sports and Education Academy in Vadodara. North Zone won the toss and elected to bat first. Priya Punia gave the ideal start to the proceedings but losing Shafali Verma, Neena M Chaudhary and Tanisha Ohlan early on was a setback.
However, this did not last long as Amanjot Kaur struck back with an attacking knock and sealed a 71-run partnership with Priya Punia, who was dismissed for 53. Amanjot carried on with her onslaught and looked in pristine form as she was supported by Sushma B Verma and Shweta Sehrawat in equal measure.
North Zone ended up with a score of 280/7 on the board with Amanjot top-scoring with a knock of 136. For West Zone, it was S B Pokharkar who scalped five crucial wickets and was supported by N Chavda and N Y Patel.
In the subsequent run chase, West Zone chased down the total without any inhibitions. Yastika Bhatia top scored with a glorious 151 with contributions coming in from SS Shinde’s 50, Jemimah Rodrigues’ 52 and scores of 9 and 10 coming from Humairaa Kaazi and T S Hasabnis, respectively that ensured the target was chased down in 42.4 overs.
South Zone vs North East Zone- South Zone Won by 80 Runs
South Zone ended their tournament on a high after sealing a crucial 80-run win against North East Zone in a low-scoring affair at the Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara. North East Zone won the toss and elected to field first.
South Zone was off to an unflattering start courtesy of Yuvashri and V Sneha Deepti who were unable to provide the base for a big start. Arundathi Reddy promoted at number 3 batted on with Sajana S giving ample support as the duo conjured a 49-run partnership. However, after their dismissal, G Trisha was dismissed for a three-ball duck.
Wicket-keeper batter Mamatha chipped in with a knock of 16, however, it was Shabnam’s 50 that stood the test of time even as wickets continued to fall derailed South Zone’s batting effort and they slipped to 173 all out. It was a comprehensive bowling outing for North East Zone as L Tamang, D D Dutta, and Monica scalped two wickets each with Pramila and Kiranbala Haorungbham picking a wicket each.
In the run-chase, barring L Tamang’s 27 and skipper D D Dutta’s 34, no other batter even crossed the double figure mark which meant North East Zone was skittled for 93. For South Zone, it was the impressive Vinaya who scalped five wickets, S B Keerthana with three wickets and with Arundathi Reddy and Sahana S Pawar pocketing a wicket each, ensured a 80 run win and a fitting end to South Zone’s campaign.
