Senior Women’s Inter Zonal One Day Trophy 2024 Day 4 Review – Points Table, Top Run-Getters And Wicket-Takers

The Senior Women’s Inter Zonal One Day Trophy 2024 is almost reaching its business end and each passing round is undoubtedly throwing up interesting results and performances. Day 4 had its fair share of memorable performances, be it Jemimah Rodrigues’ 100, Poonam Yadav’s six wickets and Shafali Verma’s 133- Day 4 had a string of memorable outings for players of each of the teams.

Here’s how Day 4 transpired of the Senior Women’s Inter Zonal One Day Trophy 2024:

West Zone vs Central Zone- West Zone Won by 31 Runs

In the highly anticipated West Zone versus Central Zone encounter, West Zone pulled off a remarkable 31-run victory at the GSFC Cricket Ground. Central Zone won the toss and elected to field first. West Zone batting first was bolstered by a brilliant opening stand provided by Yastika Bhatia and Smriti Mandhana.

They stitched an 89-run partnership before the latter perished for a well-settled knock of 30. Jemimah Rodrigues then joined Yastika Bhatia at the crease and before they could get going Poonam Yadav got the better of Yastika for 62.

Jemimah Rodrigues then kept the momentum going with a brilliant knock even as wickets tumbled around her with Humairaa Kaazi, T S Hasabnis and Radha Yadav were dismissed by Poonam Yadav cheaply. It was then the clinical partnership forged by Rodrigues and the new batter A A Patil that salvaged the situation as they brought in 127 runs in a span of 139 balls that largely helped Mumbai’s cause.

Patil’s blitzkrieg knock came to an end for 48 and with contributions of 13, 9 and 5 from Sayali Satghare, P Naik and S B Pokharkar respectively, a big total seemed on the cards. All in all, Jemimah Rodrigues’ 100 off 86 was instrumental in West Zone getting 281/8 on the board. For Central Zone, it was Poonam Yadav who shone with the ball scalping six wickets and two more scalped by Tanuja P Kanwer.

In the subsequent run-chase, Central Zone was rocked early on losing Nuzhat Parween and Srishti Sharma early on. With Mona Meshram offering some much-needed resistance from one end, it was partnerships with B S Fulmali and Dayalan Hemalatha that counted and made the difference.

Mona’s knock of 54 came to an end as NY Patel got the better of her and with resistance offered in the latter phase of the game by Dayalan Hemalatha and Sneh Rana, Central Zone seemed on track to chase it down but with their twin dismissals for 68 and 59 complicated the run-chase and they slipped to a 31 run loss.

For West Zone, N Y Patel scalped two wickets with Sayali Satghare, Radha Yadav, and A A Patil pocketing a wicket each rounding up a good performance.

South Zone vs East Zone- South Zone Won by 76 Runs

South Zone finally got off to a win in the Senior Women’s Inter Zonal One Day Trophy 2024 with a win against East Zone at the Darshanam Sports and Education Academy in Vadodara.

South Zone won the toss and elected to bat first. Off to a tricky start losing M Durga and V Sneha Deepthi early on as Titas Sadhu dismissed them. While G Trisha and Sajana S held on the innings, it was knocks of 17 and 34 respectively that came in handy as a crucial partnership of 47 was sealed.

The consistent Arundathi Reddy batted on with a lot of poise and precision and was supported by Shreyanka Patil and wicket-keeper Mamatha briefly. Reddy ended up with a well-crafted half-century with Shreyanka and Mamatha getting to scores of 34 and 30 respectively which meant South Zone ended up with 194/9 in their 50 overs quota.

In the run-chase that ensued, Mita Paul and skipper Deepti Sharma got off to a slow start but with the India internationals Deepti and Richa got out early which complicated the proceedings. Uma Chetry’s dismissal for 6 and Mita Paul’s strained 40-ball 18-run stay also made it tricky. The final blows were delivered with R R Saha, Ritu and Sushree Dibyadarshini were dismissed and the South Zone bowlers were having a field day.

Durga Murmu and Titas Sadhu attempted to stage a comeback with their fighting knocks of 34 and 15 respectively but with Vinaya and S B Keerthana getting them out, East Zone was skittled to 118 all out losing to South Zone by 76 runs. South Zone had Akshara Srinivasan scalp four wickets, Vinaya take three wickets, with Shabnam and S B Keerthana pocketing two and one wickets each respectively to score a memorable win for South Zone, their first in the tournament.

North Zone vs North East Zone- North Zone Won by 209 Runs

In a massive 209-run drubbing served to North East Zone at the Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara, North Zone was instrumental in pulling off a win. North Zone won the toss and elected to bat first.

Off to a resounding start with Priya Punia scoring runs at ease, the wickets of Sushma Verma and Tanisha Ohlan did not deter North Zone. With Amanjot Kaur chipping in with an impressive 92 coupled with Shafali Verma’s magnanimous 133 and as she chose to bat down the order, North Zone ended up with 356/6 in their 50 overs quota.
