Bangladesh have secured their game against the host country by restricting their chase in the second inning in Benoni on December 3. Some incredible bowling performances from Bangladesh led them to an incredible win over South Africa.

The game in South Africa’s Willowmoore Cricket Stadium was rather a disappointing one for South Africa. They came back victorious after a notable win over New Zealand but did not seem strong enough against Bangladesh. Despite some hearty efforts from players like Anneke Bosch for the opening partnership, the team wasn’t able to chase down the required runs and subsequently lost to Bangladesh by 13 runs.

Bangladesh won the toss and decided to bat first. The decision was in the favour of their team, given the pitch conditions. With Shamima Sultana and Murshida Khatun opening bat for Bangladesh, the team was off to a good start. While Sultana scored 24 runs off 24 deliveries, she was off to a good start but wasn’t able to stay back longer on the field.

Murshida Khatun on the other hand, held ground and played an incredible inning for Bangladesh. She contributed the major runs for her side and led the team to a secured total. Khatun remained not out until the very end and secured a total of 62 off 59 deliveries.

Sobhana Mostary and Nigar Sultana also secured crucial runs in the last few overs of the game. This led the team to a good total of 149 runs. Nigar Sultana as always, played a brilliant game as a middle-order batter and played at a strike rate of 161. She secured 34 runs.

Only two bowlers, Eliz-Mari Marx and Nondumiso Shangase were able to secure a wicket each.

South Africa had to chase 150 runs in 20 overs. The total was defendable for Bangladesh, making it challenging for the South African side. Anneke Bosch and Tazmin Brits opened the bat for the team. The two openers played a crucial inning for the side. They laid the foundation, but unfortunately, the team wasn’t able to keep up with the world-class bowling performance of Shoma Akter.

Anneke Bosch gave her absolute best with 67 runs off 49 deliveries. Tazmin Brits secured 30 off 26 deliveries. Both played at a 100+ strike rate. But with their wickets, the entire middle order collapsed, not being able to secure the required runs.

Shorna Akter devastated the entire middle-order batting lineup. She took a total of 5 wickets, including the likes of Anneke Bosch, Sune Luus, Masabata Klaas, Nondumiso Shangase and Mieke de Ridder.

With this, the team wasn’t able to set a partnership, nor were they able to gain momentum. The game was wrapped in 20 overs with the South African team losing 8 wickets and putting together 136 runs. They fell short of 13 runs and lost the game. Shorna Akter was named the Player of the Match.
