IRE vs AUS: Australia secures the second game against Ireland by a huge margin of 153. After the first game was abandoned, the Australian team came in stronger, securing the game, defending their huge total. A grand performance from Ellyse Perry led the team to an impressive total. Her steady scores, playing at an impressive strike rate, helped the team gather runs that were easily defendable.

Good efforts from the Irish bowling side and the upper-order batters. But being unable to secure the required score, the team lost their game. The game at Dublin’s Castle Avenue started in favour of Ireland who won the toss and elected to field first. Least were they aware of the huge score Australia had set in mind. Alyssa Healy and Pheobe Litchfield opened the bat but with Litchfield’s early wicket, Perry joined in to bat.

An impressive inning from Ellyse Perry. The ever-impressive, cricketing star of Australia batted at a strike rate of 92 and secured 91 runs in just 99 deliveries. Her batting was a treat to the eyes of the audience, smashing deliveries for boundaries.

Ellyse Perry was assisted by Beth Mooney, after Tahlia McGrath’s wicket. Mooney secured 49 runs in just 62 deliveries. Mooney was lost, only a ball short of securing a half-century to Cara Murray’s delivery who bowled her over.

Yet the Australians kept up with their trail of securing runs. Ashleigh Gardener joined in the brigade and scored some quick 65 runs out of only 39 deliveries, playing at a strike rate of 166. To add to the already secured runs by the upper and the middle order, Annabel Sutherland and Georgia Wareham batted and scored some finishing runs.

With major contributions from all, the team was able to secure a total of 321 runs in 50 overs at a loss of 7 wickets. A heap of runs for Ireland to chase, despite the bowling efforts they had put in. Georgina Dempsey secured the most number of wickets and got some major batters in her trap. Murray and Orla Prendergast too assisted her.

Ireland now needed 322 runs to win the game. Tough as it might seem, the Irish batters started on a high note. They seemed strong in the beginning, with Gaby Lewis and Amy Hunter batting. Amy Hunter also secured a half-century. The team lacked steadiness and they weren’t able to secure partnerships. Their entire lower-order batters collapsed with nothing major to secure.

The heap of runs was a far-away chase for the Irish team. Amazing bowling from the Australian team, with each collaborating with the other and securing the major wickets. Georgia Wareham, Jess Jonassen and Tahlia McGrath secured the major wickets. Wareham picked up a total of 3 wickets.

At the end of 38.2 overs, the Irish team had lost all their wickets to the Australian side and were able to chase only 168 of the total runs needed. They lost by a huge margin of 153 and Ellyse Perry was named the Player of the Match.
