WPL 2023: [WATCH] Virat Kohli Gives Motivational Pep Talk To RCBW As They Pick Up First Win

The elusive win has finally come for the RCB Women’s team in the WPL 2023 but has it come too late? They still have a mathematical chance to progress to the playoffs.

RCB was looking for the strongest team on paper after the player auction. However, matches are not played on paper. With the likes of Smriti Mandhana, Ellyse Perry, Richa Ghosh, Renuka Thakur Singh, Heather Knight, and Megan Schutt in the ranks, RCB fans were hopeful that the women will bring the title home.

The road has been rough for them though. RCB succumbed to 5 consecutive losses to begin their journey in WPL. They eventually managed to win their first match of the tournament against UP Warriorz in Navi Mumbai on Wednesday.

Opting to bowl first in the WPL 2023, RCB’s bowlers restricted the Alyssa Healy-led side to just 135. With the bat, RCB lost 5 wickets while chasing down the total in 18 overs. Ellyse Perry starred with the ball as she picked up 3 wickets, giving away just 16 runs in her four overs.

The 20-year-old Kanika Ahuja was awarded Player of the Match for her 30-ball 46 during RCB’s chase.

Prior to this encounter, RCB’s talisman, Virat Kohli gave the team a pep talk. He talked about how he endured tough times during his 15-year career at RCB. Kohli said that it is imperative that players give their 100% each time as it is in their hands.

The inspirational video has been posted on the social media handles of the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

“I have been playing IPL for 15 years and I haven’t won it yet, but that doesn’t stop me from being excited everywhere. That’s all I can do. That’s the effort I can put, every game, every tournament that I play. If we win, great, if we don’t, I’m not going to go to my grave, thinking that only if I had won the IPL, I would have been a happy man dying. It doesn’t happen like that,” Virat Kohli was quoted as saying.

“So always think about the opportunity you had rather than how bad it is right now. There’s always a flip side to it and could always be worse than this. And the fact that we haven’t won the IPL, I still feel we have the best fans in the world, only because we are always committed in every game we played for RCB and that has been the most special for our fans,” he stated.

“Now when they see RCB, the smile on their faces tells me that the belief in our commitment for the team is all we could have given them. There is no guarantee that we can give fans a cup every year, but there’s a guarantee that we give our 110 percent. And that’s all you can strive to do,” Virat Kohli further added.

What’s next for RCB for WPL 2023?

Smriti Mandhana will hope that the win against UP Warriorz would give her team the momentum required to finish the season strongly. Qualification is no longer in their hands but they can at least finish on a high and take some positives into next season.

RCB’s next match is against the Gujarat Giants and it is on Saturday at the Brabourne Stadium. A win for RCB will take them above Gujarat to No. 4 on the points table in the WPL 2023.
