WPL 2023: Top Five Most Expensive Indian Players In The Auction

The auction of the first-ever Women’s Premier League (WPL 2023) happened in Mumbai on Monday, February 13 where Smriti Mandhana stole the show. As many as 10 members of the Indian women’s cricket squad received breathtaking offers for the Women’s Premier League 2023 that are above Rs 1 crore.

As was to be expected, Indian players trounced the bidding wars, and Mumbai Indians scored a coup by signing India captain Harmanpreet Kaur for Rs 1.8 crore.

Smriti Mandhana made history by becoming the first player to be sold at the auction for the much-awaited T20 tournament, which will be held in Mumbai from March 3 to 26. She also emerged as the most expensive player at the WPL 2023 auction event.

Mumbai Indians made a bid, but Royal Challengers Bangalore won the vice-captain of India. After 15 years of the IPL, RCB had one of the most devoted fanbases, and Smriti was overjoyed to join them.

The India stars watched the historic WPL auction together and shared in one other’s achievements while they were in South Africa for the Women’s T20 World Cup.

Smriti Mandhana

Royal Challengers and the Mumbai Indians Bangalore engaged in a competitive bidding process to enlist Smriti Mandhana. Mumbai, though, eventually had to make a comeback. Mandhana was successfully signed by Bangalore for a staggering sum of Rs 3.4 crore.

Deepti Sharma

Although Deepti Sharma was initially registered with a base price of Rs 50 lakh, she ultimately managed to bring in Rs 2.6 crore. Four teams expressed interest in signing Deepti were the UP Warriorz, Delhi Capitals, Gujarat, and Mumbai. The first offer from UP Warriorz was for Rs 2.2 crore, and they ultimately signed her.

Jemimah Rodrigues

Jemimah Rodrigues was acquired by Delhi Capitals for Rs 2.2 crore. The bidders included the UP Warriorz, Delhi Capitals, and Mumbai Indians. After submitting a bid of Rs 2.2 crore, UP Warriorz ultimately won.

Shafali Verma

Shafali Verma, the India skipper who won the U-19 T20 World Cup, was signed by Delhi Capitals for Rs 2 crore. Although Royal Challengers Bangalore wanted to sign the India opener, Delhi outbid them in the run.

Richa Ghosh

Once more, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Capitals competed for Richa Ghosh in a bidding battle. But Bangalore won with a prize of Rs 1.9 crore this time. One more in the Rs 1.9 crore cap is Pooja Vastrakar who was enlisted and purchased by Mumbai Indians.
