WPL 2023: “WPL Is A Beginning With Great Expectations” – Sachin Tendulkar

Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar spoke on the beauty that the league holds. He applauded BCCI’s efforts and congratulated the youngsters for their brilliant game. In an interview during India Today Conclave 2023, Tendulkar spoke, “Fantastic. First of all, a big congratulations to BCCI because it is a great initiative. First inning was well played by the BCCI and the second inning we all have to support.”

He further added, “They (women cricketers) are doing a magnificent job. I am really impressed by their fielding standards. Their athleticism. It has just blown my mind. It’s fast, its exciting and good cricket should always be encouraged. They are fiercely competitive. I know how IPL is played and this is the beginning of WPL. I believe everyday starts with some expectations and when you go back home there is some experience.”

“I want to congratulate all the teams and all the women cricketers who have turned up here. This is a beginning of something really big not just for India but for the world,” he stated.

Sachin Tendulkar also stated that he had wished there was an extra fielder outside the ring, making it to a total of 5 which would only be fair to the bowlers, given the format of this game in the WPL 2023.

Speaking on the general sports scene of women in India, Tendulkar stated, “They have arrived. You need heroes. You idealize them, worship them and try to emulate. Whatever they try to achieve, you must be able to follow their footsteps. There have been big names and they have brought laurels to our nation. I feel this is beginning of something really big. It is journey and one needs to constantly improve on it, which includes infrastructure and the platforms they have to express their talents is important.”

“There is no better tonic for an athlete than opportunities, platform and appreciation of having done well come together. So when these three things come together, it inspires you to push harder and take that extra step further,” Sachin Tendulkar concluded.

A long way for sportswomen in India to accomplish, but baby steps have been successfully put forward with the WPL 2023.
