WPL 2023: BCCI Announces Women’s Premier League 2023 Schedule

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the official schedule for the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023 after the conclusion of the auction in Mumbai on 13 February. The tournament will take place in two venues namely DY Patil and CCI, Brabourne from 4 March to 26 March where a total of 20 league matches and 2 Playoff matches will be played during 23 days.

In the inaugural edition, 5 teams – Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore & UP Warriorz will compete with each other and they have acquired some of the best talents in the international and domestic circuit as well. A total of 87 players were bought by the five franchises in the Women’s Premier League 2023 auction.

Team India vice-captain Smriti Mandhana was the highest bid by Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise for Rs 3.4 Crore. On the other hand, Team India Captain Harmanpreet Kaur was sold to Mumbai Indians for INR 1.80 Crore while the rest of the stars from India and around the world too got teams in the five franchises.

Among the foreign players, Australia all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner and England all-rounder Natalie Sciver were the costliest players as they were sold to Gujarat Giants and Mumbai Indians for INR 3.20 Crore respectively. From the India U19 stars, ICC U19 T20 World Cup winning captain, Shafali Verma was also one of the top buys, sold to Delhi Capitals for INR 2 Crore as well.

The league will start on 4th March at the DY Patil Stadium with a blockbuster clash between Gujarat Giants and Mumbai Indians.

On Sunday, 5th March 2023, the WPL will have its first double-header day where Royal Challengers Bangalore will square off against Delhi Capitals at the Brabourne Stadium, CCI. UP Warriorz will play their first game of the league against Gujarat Giants at the DY Patil Stadium in the evening.

There will be 4 double headers with the first match starting at 3:30 PM IST and the evening games will begin at 7:30 PM IST. A total of 11 matches each will be held at the DY Patil Stadium and Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai as well. The Final match of the league stage will be played between UP Warriorz and Delhi Capitals on 21st March at the Brabourne Stadium, CCI whereas the Eliminator will be played at the DY Patil Stadium on 24th March.
