Women’s Asia Cup 2024: Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh – Nigar Sultana And Shorna Akter Help Bangladesh Post A Modest Total

Sri Lanka are currently playing against Bangladesh in the fourth fixture of the ACC Women’s T20 Asia Cup 2024 at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium, Dambulla, Sri Lanka on Saturday, July 20. Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bat first. While the bowlers of Sri Lanka did an excellent job, Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana Jyoti and Shorna Akter tried their best to reach the three-figure mark.

Udeshika Prabodhani claimed 2 wickets in the very first over

Batting first, Bangladesh got a massive blow in the very first over of Udeshika Prabodhani. She first bowled Dilara Akter with an inswinger which the batter failed to read and the ball went through the gap. She got late to play the shot and eventually got out too. The next delivery saw the dismissal of Rubiya Haider.

It was a full and swinging delivery outside off stump, and Rubiya played a lofted drive that didn’t clear the infield and Nilakshi de Silva grabbed a one-hander stunner at the cover-point as well. Soon, Priyadharshani removed Ishma Tanjim for a 3-ball duck and Bangladesh was left struggling in the middle.

Nigar Sultana top-scored with 48 for Bangladesh

However, Nigar Sultana tried to steady the ship with Ritu Moni but the latter got out within the powerplay and Bangladesh were reduced to 17 for 4 in the powerplay as well. Later on, Shorifa Khatun supported Nigar well and they added 31 runs. But that couldn’t stay long as Chamari Athapaththubowled her. Rabeya Khan too tried her best with 10 runs but couldn’t contribute much.

Meanwhile, Shorna Akter joined Nigar in the middle and played a quickfire knock. They built a partnership of 31 runs before her blitzy 25 off 14 with 5 boundaries cut short by Kavisha Dilhari as well. Nigar Sultana hit two boundaries towards the end and helped Bangladesh reach 111 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs.

Inoshi Priyadharshani opened up after the 1st innings: “[Catch] She was quite excited about it and was wanting to hold it and what she thought happened. [On the wickets] She has learnt a lot of things, she recognises the moment and taken with both hands.”
