The third game was a good opportunity for Ireland to settle the series for 1-1 but West Indies brilliantly chased the required score and settled the game for victory.
The third game between West Indies and Ireland was a decisive one. With Ireland winning the toss, they opted to bat first. The opening batter Leah Paul wasn’t able to display her skills today, but the game was balanced by Gaby Lewis, who backed the batting order and played a steady game.
Gaby Lewis singlehandedly batted for 95 runs, putting up the required total on board. She was backed by players like Orla Prendergast and later Ava Canning, who played a few deliveries. Lewis’ total led the team to a score of 203 in 50 overs.
The middle-order batters did not seem to contribute much but later Ava Canning and Cara Murray helped the team cross the benchmark of 200. This led the team to a safe, defendable score at the end of the first inning.

Presentable bowling from West Indies, as they bagged some timely wickets and made it difficult for the opponents to settle for a bigger score. Afy Fletcher, bagged 3 wickets in all whereas Cherry Ann Fraser, Qiana Joseph and Shamilia Connell picked 2 wickets each. The West Indies bagged all ten wickets in 50 overs.
Hayley Matthews opened bat in the second inning with 204 runs to chase. She and Zaida James lost early wickets to Ireland. While James was bowled before wickets, Matthews had to return to Orla Pendergast’s delivery. Stafanie Taylor then backed the game and singlehandedly pulled on the run chase securing 79 runs in 105 deliveries. Her contribution was major, given the score that was to be chased and the kind of backbone the team required.
Taylor remained not out until the last delivery and was backed by batters like Rashada Williams and Chinelle Henry. Henry contributed a fantastic 59 runs and led the team to victory. She secured the last few remaining runs and helped the team bag their series against Ireland at a strike rate of 96.
Irish batters did try their level best. But the power-batting performance from West Indies seemed invincible. Aimee Maguire picked two wickets while bowlers like Orla Prendergast and Sophie MacMahon contributed greatly. Ireland seemed to have fallen short of a few runs.

West Indies secured the series with the major contributions of players like Hayley Matthews and Stafanie Taylor. While Taylor bagged the Player of the Match award, Matthews was named the Player of the Series. Ireland will now try to make a comeback in the upcoming T20 series against West Indies; while West Indies will mean to carry their momentum forward.
