‘We Just Kept Pressure On Them And That Probably Set The Game For Us’ – Ellyse Perry

Having performed exceptionally well throughout the series, being a constant for her side, Ellyse Perry has won the hearts of millions around the world. Australia secured the Ashes with their second ODI win against England and Perry, especially, outshined all the others, with both the ball and the bat in hand.

Here’s what she has to share about her game and the series overall before heading to the World Cup. Having wrapped up the way the team has always wanted to, was one of her dreams come true. “There were tough parts to the game, but we finished the way we did and that was really great,” said Ellyse Perry. “There’s been some amazing contest throughout. I don’t think anyone has been easy. It’s been an absolute pleasure to be out on the field with everyone.”

Talking about her team’s overall performance throughout Ashes she added, “The amazing part has been how we’ve absorbed pressure. The leadership of Meg and Racheal and the calmness throughout the group. Also girls just took up opportunities when they are given to them.”

The great part of the game according to her was fielding and taking opportunities. Executing the game and been aggressive was equally important according to her. She spoke of McGrath’s incredible performance and immense contribution to the side.

“She’s been an incredible player this summer. She has taken the game to another level. It’s been wonderful to see the contribution she makes to the side. It’s important for us now and it’s really exciting to see her work towards the World Cup,” Ellyse Perry shared.

Being asked about the strategy for the game, she added, “I think it was really simple. I felt it was a pretty good wicket. We were positive and were looking to play straight which has paved the way. Today was really good. We did well in pace and spin. We just kept the pressure on them and that probably set the game for us.”

She also believes there’s more to do with the team with one last game remaining before heading to the quarantine and then the championship. The last game according to Ellyse Perry also means a lot to England who has had a tough series, trying to make a comeback.

Talking about maintaining consistency and improving her bowling performance Ellyse Perry added, “Bowling a few overs in the Test matches is helpful for rhythm in a game. It’s nice to discuss things and stay on top of the technique point. It’s just consistently playing cricket and being out in the middle and getting your field for it.”

Jess and Meg are the two most important gems of their side. “Jess and Meg are exceptionally important. They are both ranked in the top five positions of the ICC ranking for the one-day internationals. They have tremendous experience and have been through so many different situations and handled the pressure so well. It’s important to have both on our side. They are going to play a huge role in the World Cup,” Ellyse Perry concluded.
