Sydney Thunder will play against Hobart Hurricanes in the knockout of the Women’s Big Bash League 2024 (WBBL 2024) at Drummoyne Oval in Sydney, on Wednesday, November 27. The Hurricanes finished in the fourth position on the points table after the league stage. Whereas, the Thunder ended in the third spot.
Sydney Thunder managed to taste victory in six games during the league stage of the WBBL, while they conceded a loss in their last encounter a few days back. As a result, Sydney finished in the third spot in the points tally. The Thunder would have been eying up top spot in the league stage and an automatic passage through to the final heading into their match against Melbourne Renegades. However, a thumping nine-wicket defeat later and they were consigned to the knockout match having finished in third-place.
On the other hand, Hobart Hurricanes’ journey came on the back of a hard-fought three-wicket victory. Chasing 139 to beat Perth Scorchers, Hurricanes did it the hard way after putting on 51 runs for the first wicket. A batting collapse saw them reduced to 95/7 and on the verge of elimination, until an unbroken partnership of 44 between Scottish international Kathryn Bryce and Lauren Smith saw the Hurricanes home with 2.2 overs to spare. The team will aim to continue their winning momentum ahead in a bid to keep their hopes alive for the summit clash.
