Alana King’s runs and wickets helped Perth Scorchers win another game against Sydney Sixers in the WBBL 2023. King not only picked 2 wickets in the second inning but also contributed the highest number of runs from her side to lead the team to a decent total in the first inning.

A collaborative performance was seen from the Perth Scorchers. For the Sydney Sixers, the game began on a high note, but the Scorchers rose from the ashes and ultimately sealed the deal with a fantastic win in the WBBL 2023.

Right from the first inning, Sydney Sixers had an upper hand in the game. Ashleigh Gardner picking 3 wickets had shaken the entire opposition batting lineup. With Ellyse Perry opening the chase on a high note, the game was almost in their pockets. But Amy Edgar’s impressive bowling haul supported by Alana King and Sophie Devine, stole the game away from the lower order batters of Sixers and this led to their defeat against Scorchers.

Winning the toss, Perth Scorchers, the host of the game, decided to bat first. Chloe Piparo and Beth Mooney opened and the two laid the required foundation playing some good cricket. Both the batters played at a remarkable strike rate, but none of them were able to play a longer game.

Mooney secured 32 runs off 25 balls and Piparo secured 20 runs off 14 deliveries. The game progressed towards Maddy Darke and Sophie Devine taking charge of the bat after Piparo and Mooney’s wicket.

While the match was off to a decent start, the middle order stumbled, finding it difficult to maintain their stance against Ashleigh Gardner’s fierce bowling. Gardner picked some ace batters like Devine and Lisa Griffith. Losing the middle order, a little too early, led the team to a sceptical situation.

Amy Jones played a steady game. She backed Alana King, especially in the last few overs and the two secured the major runs. While Jones contributed 28 runs, King secured 33 and this led the team to a total of 166 runs at the end of 20 overs. Alana King played a quick game indeed. Her jaw-dropping strike rate of 235 led the team to a secured score in the WBBL 2023.

The Perth Scorchers lost a lot of wickets. All thanks to Ashleigh Gardner, who was backed by Linsey Smith, Lauren Cheatle, Maitlan Brown and Kate Peterson. Smith picked two while all others picked single wickets each.

With 167 runs to chase in all, the Sydney Sixers needed a brilliant start and they were off to just that. Ellyse Perry opened the bat with Suzie Bates. Unfortunately, Bates was lost too early, securing 18 runs, but Perry kept up with the game and secured 59 runs off just 48 deliveries.

Perry played at a strike rate of 122 but witnessed a lot of wickets from the non-striker’s end. By the time Perry had secured her half-century, she had seen wickets of Ashleigh Gardner, Erin Burns, Chloe Tryon and Maitlan Brown, some of the finest batters of the team.

This added to the existing pressure and eventually, Perry was also lost. After her wicket, the lower-order batters seemed to have been devastated. They weren’t able to secure the required runs, and they also lost some quick wickets during the game of the WBBL 2023.

Amy Edgar played a major role in securing the wickets. She picked a total of 4 wickets at an economy of 4.75. Alana King picked 2 wickets and Sophie Devine picked 2 as well. The Sydney Sixers lost the game, not being able to secure the set target in 20 overs. They also lost 9 wickets and Perth Scorchers won the game by a margin of 36 runs in the WBBL 2023.

Alana King was named the Player of the Match for her 2 wickets and a smashing performance of 33 off 14 deliveries.
