A good win for Perth Scorchers as they secured a big match against Hobart Hurricanes in the 10th match of the WBBL 2023. Captain herself secured the highest score for her side leading them to a huge total and then conveniently securing the game.
The game between Hobart Hurricanes and Perth Scorchers at the Aurora Stadium at Launceston in WBBL 2023 was a bowling miracle. Alana King, Chloe Ainsworth, and Stella Campbell all shined with the ball in hand. While Hobart Hurricanes won the toss and chose to bowl first. Lauren Winfield opened the bat with Beth Mooney. Unfortunately, Mooney was lost too early and then Maddy Darke was also lost consecutively. With Winfield on the field, captain Sophie Devine came in to bat.
At 52/3, Perth Scorchers seemed in a miserable position, after Winfield was lost. Devine provided the required pace to the game from here on as she singlehandedly secured 87 runs. Devine played a brilliant game. Her masterclass performance at a strike rate of 197, changed the game for Scorchers in the WBBL 2023.
Devine played spectacular shots, slicing the ball off to the boundaries. Her quick game was an absolute necessity for the team to set a defendable score against the Hurricanes. Devine played a not-out inning and with Amy Edgar’s last few runs, the team was able to put up a total of 186 runs on board.
For the Hobart Hurricanes, Maisy Gibson, Molly Strano and Heather Graham picked a wicket each. Chasing down the total of 186 runs was a major challenge for the Hobart Hurricanes. Lizelle Lee and Bryony Smith opened the bat for the Hurricanes. A disappointing inning for the Hurricanes, who continuously lost wickets against the fierce bowling line-up of the Perth Scorchers. While the middle order of Ruth Johnston, Molly Strano and Tabatha Saville tried to balance their side, they couldn’t achieve any major success in the WBBL 2023.
Alana King picked three wickets, playing at an economy of 4.8. She was backed by bowlers like Chloe Ainsworth, Stella Campbell, Sophie Devine, Piepa Cleary and Lily Mills. Ainsworth and Campbell picked 2 wickets each while the other fetched one.
An absolutely low game for Hobart Hurricanes, who lost their game by securing just 88 runs in 10 wickets. Hurricanes lost the game to Scorchers by a huge margin of 98 runs.
