Women’s Big Bash League 2023 (WBBL 2023) is all set to begin on Thursday, October 19 with a thrilling clash between Sydney Sixers and Melbourne Stars. Eight teams will play against each other in the ninth edition of the tournament and will feature in 59 matches, including the final on December 2 as well.
The defending champions Adelaide Strikers will take on Melbourne Stars at home on October 21. Meanwhile, Sydney Sixers, the runner-up in 2022, will miss their regular captain Ellyse Perry for the opening match against the Stars as the star all-rounder is set to serve a one-match ban as well.
On the other hand, Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur represents Melbourne Renegades and she will be joined by the star West Indies all-rounder Hayley Matthews this season in WBBL 2023. Notably, Kaur is the only Indian player playing in the tournament this season as well. On the other hand, star England player Lauren Bell is among the star players who are all set to make their debut in the Women’s Big Bash League 2023 (WBBL 2023) as well.
Women’s Big Bash League 2023 (WBBL 2023): Format
The eight teams will take on each other in a home and away round-robin format, with each team playing 14 games as well. There are 10 neutral matches scheduled at different venues across the country.
The team that will end up placed at the top of the table following the regular season qualifies directly for the final of WBBL 2023. The third and fourth-placed teams will play an Eliminator, with the winner playing against the second-placed side in the Challenger for a spot in the final as well.
All matches will have a four-over powerplay (instead of six), where the batting team can call for a two-over ‘power surge’ between the 11th and 20th overs, where powerplay fielding restrictions will be applied.

Fans in Australia can watch all 59 matches of WBBL 2023 live and free on either the Seven Network or cricket.com.au as well. However, out of 59 matches, 24 will be televised on free-to-air on Seven and simulcast on Foxtel and Kayo, whereas the rest of the 35 games will be shown on Foxtel and Kayo Sports as well. These will also be live-streamed for free on cricket.com.au.
