WBBL 08: Jemimah Rodrigues All Set To Be A Part Of The Melbourne Stars

WBBL 08: Young shining star, Jemimah Rodrigues has become the first ever India to be signed by the Melbourne Stars this year for the WBBL. Rodrigues played with the Renegades last year. This year she will be seen playing for the Stars with her impressive performance at the Commonwealth Games.

“I am super excited to be a part of the Stars family,” Rodrigues said. “I’ve been told that I’m the first ever Indian to sign for the Stars and it is my honor to do so. Melbourne has always been my favourite city in Australia and I can’t wait to get back there!”

Rodrigues was impressive last year with the Renegades, as she scored a total of 333 runs at a strike rate of 116. The player has a laudable international record of 1273 runs in all in the total of 58 ODI games that she has played. The player had missed her ODI World Cup but made a strong comeback in India’s tour of Sri Lanka. At the Senior Women’s T20 game she played at an average of 60.75 runs.

The player played her phenomenal game at the Hundred. Although she had to withdraw from the other half of the series due to a wrist injury, her 51 runs in the opener smashed off just 32 balls against Oval Invincibles, which was a memorable one.

Following her amazing international career, Blair Crouch, Star’s general manager, showed a welcoming gesture towards the youngster, stating, “We have a huge following in India and to add a player of Jemimah’s quality to our squad is a huge coup for the club. I’m sure Jemimah will quickly become a fan favourite and we look forward to seeing her as part of the Stars Family in WBBL 08.”

Jemimah Rodrigues is expected to join the Star’s squad after the Women’s Asia Cup that is scheduled to be held from October 1st to 16th. A total of 8 players participated last year at the WBBL. This year too, the Indian squad is expecting a larger contingent.
