As the young Indian side made history on Sunday by winning the inaugural edition of the ICC U19 T20 World Cup, the efficient and emotional Indian skipper, Shafali Verma was unable to control her tears. India defeated England by seven wickets in the championship match on Sunday at Potchefstroom’s Senwes Park.
She had a big smile on her face when Shafali arrived for the award ceremony following the match, but she found it difficult to control the emotions running fiercely in her veins. She wiped her tears away with a smile on her face as they streamed down her cheeks. What a proud moment for the Indian cricket fraternity!
After losing the Women’s Cricket World Cup finals in 2005 and 2017, the Indian senior women’s side had never won an ICC championship. The team that lost to Australia in the 2022 Women’s T20 World Cup final at Melbourne Cricket Ground in front of a record crowd included Shafali and wicket-keeper Richa Ghosh (MCG).

India swept the toss at their side and decided to bowl first in the encounter. England was given the opportunity to bat but was dismissed for 68 in 17.1 overs. They had four hitters reach the double digits, but neither of them could continue. Ryana MacDonald-Gay, who ended up scoring 19 runs off 24 balls and briefly appeared dangerous, was the player who scored the most runs.
The best Indian bowler was Titas Sadhu, who finished with astounding scores of 4-0-6-2. Additionally, Archana Devi and Parshavi Chopra each secured two wickets. Additionally, Sonam Yadav, Shafali, and Mannat Kashyap each claimed one wicket. With six overs remaining, India successfully surpassed the goal. One wicket each was obtained by Hannah Baker, Grace Scrivens, and Alexa Stonehouse. For India, Soumya Tiwari and Gongadi Trisha each scored 24 runs.
India scored the winning runs when Soumya batted the final ball of the 14th over. Shweta Sehrawat, who managed to finish with the most runs scored in the competition, was unable to reach double digits. Shafali scored 15 runs on the strength of a four and a six.
Some perks of Team India’s top-notch performance in the ICC U19 T20 World Cup:
Titas Sadhu left Seren stunned
The scene took place in the 7th over. As soon as Titas came to bowl the second ball of the over, she kept the line and length of the ball so brilliant that the moment the ball pitched, it collided with the wickets as an in-swinger. Before Seren could even swing the bat, Titas blew her senses. This brilliant delivery from Titas not only scattered Seren’s stance but also stunned the cricket lovers.
What a delivery! Titas Sadhu leaves Seren stunned with a brilliant delivery!

Archana Devi’s one-handed blinder with a full-length dive
With England’s top order failing, Archana Devi’s double-wicket fourth over gave India the advantage in the match. She rose to prominence in the cricket diaspora, though, after dismissing England’s leading scorer Ryana Macdonald Gay with an amazing one-handed catch. At mid-off, she dove to her right and used an aerial effort to capture a ball. This was something of the pure standard of fielding.

Soumya Tiwari’s superb throw gets rid of Josie Groves
Saumya Tiwari was on top of the world with the most refined level of fielding, which contributed to the Women in Blue clinch closure to the victory by making a direct throw. Josie Groves played the shot on the off-side in an effort to steal runs, but Soumya displayed agility and delivered a direct throw that knocked the former into the pavilion.
