Alana King creates history at Old Trafford, secures 4 wickets against Manchester Originals and becomes the first ever women cricketer to secure a hat-trick. The Australian leg-spinner has made every cricketing fan proud with her successful spell against the Manchester Originals at the Hundred. An incredible day it has been for this queen of Australia, as she led Trent Rockets to an easy win.
Dedicating her spell to the Legendary Shane Warne, the player has paid her tribute and respects. While the second edition of the Hundred is on in all zest, King has brought glory to the game by registering the first ever hat-trick in the history of women’s cricket. Alana picked Gordella Griffith, Sophie Ecclestone, and captain Katie Cross on consecutive deliveries to secure a hat-trick. She had a chance to get her fourth wicket in the form of Ellie Threlkeld, but she missed her chance by the review taken.
With the help of King’s dreamy spell of 4 for 15, Rockets were able to dominate their game against Originals. King has dedicated her spell to Shane Warne who is her huge inspiration and a reason behind her ending up bowling.

She said, “The hat-trick is pretty special. I hope [Shane Warne] is looking down and is pretty proud. That’s my first hat-trick. Not even in juniors did I take one. My first hat-trick at Old Trafford, I couldn’t have written it.”
Further, she added, “Will I get my name up here at Old Trafford? That would be brilliant. Hopefully right next to Warnie. He took poles here for fun, and I’m sure he was looking down pretty happy. He was a massive inspiration, but it wasn’t just me. It was kids all around the world who he inspired to pick up leg spin. He was definitely the reason I picked up leg spin. Hopefully, he’s been proud watching down on me spin a few.”
She also congratulated the Old Trafford crowd for the incredible support they showed throughout, saying, “The atmosphere was absolutely incredible. To get our first win was pretty special. We knew we were under par with the bat, and we needed to stick to our game plan with the ball. We wanted to take some early wickets in the powerplay, which we did. As soon as we got their two openers out, we knew the pressure was back on them.”
