‘If You Ask Me Which Format I Would Like to Play, I’d Say Test Cricket’ – Jhulan Goswami

Women’s Cricket in India has seen a rise after the 2017 ICC Cricket World Cup. While ICC and its members are taking several actions in the count for the betterment of women’s cricket, the lack of Test matches has really affected many players including India speedster Jhulan Goswami.

However, the recent success has shown that the craze is there to welcome women’s cricket. ICC T20 World Cup final in March witnessed a packed stadium of over 86K spectator a record in itself at the MCG. Meanwhile, it was also a massive hit on digital platforms as it is now the most-watched ICC event ever and the second most successful ICC event after the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019 as well.

Amidst all these, Test matches have overshadowed. Recently, Jhulan Goswami has explained the reason behind it, citing that she considers Tests as the highest point of the sport.

“Unfortunately, some of the other countries are not interested in playing the longest version of the game, and that’s why women’s Test matches have reduced. But still, Australia and England are playing one Ashes a year,” Jhulan Goswami told Sportskeeda. “Till 2014, we didn’t play any. As a cricketer, we love to play Test matches as they are a different experience, and always give you a lot of challenges.”

The Indian team has last played a Test in 2014 when they beat South Africa by an innings and 34 runs in Mysore. Jhulan Goswami has further added that she has really enjoyed playing Test cricket.

“If you ask me which format I would like to play, I’d say Test match cricket. Unfortunately, we haven’t played much but whenever we play, I’ve really enjoyed. Mental toughness and patience are required. Every session, the game is changing and it’s very unpredictable,” she said.

The highest wicket-taker in ODI, Jhulan Goswami has played 10 Tests so far, claiming 40 wickets which came at an average of 16.62. In ODIs, she has taken 225 wickets in 182 games.
