South Africa will take on India in the 5th match of the T20I Tri-Series 2023 at Buffalo Park, Eastern Cape on January 28. South Africa and India have already made it to the finals they will surely not consider this match as an inconsequential affair with the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup on the horizon.
India is placed at the top of the table with two wins from as many games. South Africa sits at No. 2 with two wins against the struggling West Indies team and a loss against India. West Indies are effectively out of the race with three losses from three games.
India has been clinical in all three departments so far in the tournament. Smriti Mandhana got out cheaply against South Africa but won the Player of the Match for her unbeaten knock of 74 against the West Indies. Harmanpreet Kaur also scored an impressive fifty against the Women in Maroon.
West Indies could only manage to score 111 runs in the 20 overs while chasing 168 against India. Deepti Sharma starred with the ball as she picked up 2/29 in 4 overs. South Africa will be high on confidence after beating West Indies by 10 wickets while chasing 98 runs in the 4th match of the tri-series on Wednesday.
In their previous meeting, India put up 147 in 20 overs after being put into bat by Sune Luus. Amanjot Kaur and Deepti Sharma were the star performers in the match as they stitched a vital 6th wicket partnership of 76 runs to take India to a fighting score. With the bat in hand, South Africa got choked by the five Indian spinners. They managed only 120 runs from 20 overs for the loss of 9 wickets. Sharma picked up 3 wickets.
India will hope to keep their winning run going while South Africa will want to avenge their previous loss to the Asian nation.
