SL vs IND: The first game of the ODI series between Sri Lanka and Team India will take place at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Pallekele on July 1. Both sides have recently played a three-match T20I series which all were closely-fought games and the visitors managed to win the series 2-1. They won the first two games of the series but the hosts bounced back brilliantly to finish the series on a high note and avoid a whitewash.
Chamari Athapaththu will continue to lead the Sri Lankan side in the ODI series. She was in a sublime form in the last game of the T20I series, scoring 80 and remaining unbeaten to take her side across the line while chasing 139 as well. She will look to carry forward her stunning form in the ODI series. Apart from them, others too have to step up for them if they want to lead in the series.
On the other hand, Harmanpreet Kaur will lead the Indian side after being named the captain of the side following Mithali Raj’s retirement. She was also the player of the T20I series for her all-round performance in all three games. She has been a vital cog in the side as well. They are firm favourites ahead of the ODI series.

Venue: Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Pallekele
Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu finished the T20I series as the highest run-scorer with 139 runs which came at a decent rate. While her bowling has helped her side, her undeniable ability with the bat makes her one of the key players as well. As the southpaw is in fine form, it will be interesting to see how she will perform. Apart from her, the young opener Vishmi Gunaratne, Harshitha Madavi and Kavisha Dilhari will also play the key role for Sri Lanka and the visitors will try to get rid of them quickly. Even, the bowlers too have to play important roles if they want to have early leads in the series as well.
For India, this is going to be a blockbuster series considering their strong batting line-up. Smriti Mandhana and Yastika Bhatia will be ready to take on the bowlers. They both did well so far. Alongside them, there will be the captain, Harmanpreet Kaur. After her success in the T20I series, she is the one to watch out for as well.
India and Sri Lanka have met a total of 29 times in the ODI format and India are the dominant team between the two. Out of the 29 matches, they have won 26 matches and lost only two so far.
The pitch at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium is a balanced one. The new ball will come well onto the bat and the batters can play their strokes freely as well. The spinners will play a key role when the ball starts gripping off the surface.
The temperature in Pallekele on Friday is likely to range between 23 and 31 degrees Celsius. We might witness rain interruptions during the match as well.
