On This Day: Harmanpreet Kaur Leads India in ODI for the Very First Time

On this day in 2013, in the absence of their regular captain, Harmanpreet Kaur, playing her 35th ODI for India was handed over the responsibilities to lead the team. And against Bangladesh, she wore the captain’s arm-band for the first time in One Day International.

Electing to bat first, Bangladesh lost both of their openers within 10 overs. However, Rumana Ahmed who scored 38 off 63 balls with 5 fours made a partnership of  57 for the 3rd wicket with Lata Mandal. After Ahmed got dismissed by Nagarajan Niranjana, Salma Khatun and Lata Mandal tried to settle the Bangladeshi innings. Salma Khatun who has scored a total of 40 runs in her previous 8 innings with a highest of 12 turns out to the messiah for the Tigers.
