[WATCH] Jubilant Homecoming for Team India After U19 T20 World Cup Triumph

Team India received a grand reception upon their return home on Tuesday after clinching the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup in Malaysia. On Sunday, February 2, Niki Prasad’s squad secured victory in the final against Kayla Reneke’s South Africa at the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur. The Bengaluru airport witnessed an emotional scene as the young champions reunited with their families, basking in the appreciation of their supporters.

India’s Dominance throughout the Tournament

The Indian team showcased an exceptional performance, winning all their matches in Malaysia and successfully defending their title. Niki Prasad led from the front, ensuring that India remained unbeaten throughout the competition. Gongadi Trisha, with her exceptional batting and all-round skills, played a pivotal role in India’s success. The team’s spin attack, led by Parunika Sisodia, Vaishnavi Sharma, and Aayushi Shukla, ensured dominance throughout the tournament.

Key Performers of the Tournament

Gongadi Trisha: She won the Player of the Match award in the final and also bagged the Player of the Tournament title. Trisha amassed 309 runs and claimed seven wickets, including two three-wicket hauls. Trisha became the first-ever batter to score a hundred in the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup, achieving the milestone against Scotland.

Vaishnavi Sharma: She became the tournament’s top wicket-taker with 17 scalps, including a hat-trick and a five-wicket haul against Malaysia.

Parunika Sisodia: The semi-final hero against England, where she picked up three crucial wickets.

Aayushi Shukla: A consistent performer, finishing as the second-highest wicket-taker with 14 wickets.

Grand Welcome at Bengaluru Airport

As the team landed in Bengaluru, emotions ran high as players were greeted with warm hugs from their family members and well-wishers. The rousing welcome reflected the immense pride the nation felt for these young cricketers.

This victory mirrors India’s 2023 U19 Women’s T20 World Cup win under Shafali Verma, who led India to glory on South African soil after defeating England in the final. India’s second consecutive U19 Women’s T20 World Cup title solidifies their status as a rising force in women’s cricket. This victory will inspire the next generation of young cricketers and boost the sport’s popularity across the country.

Hyderabad Cricket Association felicitates members

The Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) welcomed players, including G. Trisha, who were accompanied by their head coach Nooshin Al Khadeer and other team members. A. Jagan Mohan Rao, the president of the HCA, was present to greet and honor the players for their outstanding achievements. Joining Trisha were Team India member Dhruthi and trainer Shalini.

During the welcome ceremony, the HCA president expressed his hope that Trisha’s success story would inspire more young girls to take up cricket and sports with greater enthusiasm and dedication. He also noted that it was significant that Nooshin, the team’s coach, is from Hyderabad, adding to the city’s pride in their successful team. He further announced that the HCA would soon organise a formal felicitation ceremony to honour the players and support staff.

Trisha thanked the HCA president for his kind gesture and pledged to continue bringing laurels to the country.

“I am proud to have been part of the Indian team that has now won the U-19 World Cup twice. This victory is particularly special as I was able to contribute significantly to the team’s success,” she said.

She also expressed gratitude to the national team’s support staff and her mentors, including K. John Manoj, former Ranji cricketer Anoop Pai, and coaches Srinivas, both of whom were associated with St John’s Coaching Foundation — now known as Coaching Beyond — in Hyderabad.
